I started this topic so we could see the various bus shows throughout the years. You are welcome to contribute to this topic.
What was the official year the first bus show was held? And where?
What do you like and what dont you like about the bus shows? What can we do to improve the shows? Where's the best place to hold the bus shows?

So far,we have covered the bus show from 1976,1980,81,82,83,84,85,86,87,88,89.

A big thank you to everyone who has replied to this topic.Thank you for helping. We've got several different years covered so far.

Its interesting to look back at the various years of the shows to see what was being built.Back in the mid 1980s the high deck coaches and double deck coaches had hit the market and their popularity soared.Ansair started with their Mercedes Benz 0303s high decks in 1981.Volgren had their own high decks when they released the Twin Deck coach with rear saloon downstairs as well as their own double deck.Denning,Austral,PMC and Custom Coaches bringing out their respective high decks and later the double decks of Denning and Austral. Then there were the imported coaches like Kassbohrer Setra,Bova Futura and Neoplan Cityliner/Scanias to name a few.

The first Bus Show was was a "Field Day" held on 27/08/1971 at Fairfield Showground. There was a total of 36 items (buses, coaches and chassis) on display.
The day was organised by the late George Gourlay who was the secretary of the Bus Proprietors Association (NSW) at the time. The BPA later became the BCA
and is now known as Bus NSW.

The 1981 show had the luxury Hino RJ demonstrator. I remember seeing this bus at Bong Bong Races; every bus driver there would have dragged mud and grass through it. Pity the poor cleaner afterwards.

yes went to every bus show starting from a dusty Fairfield showground to warwick farm in wind & rain it was were you had a beer & a snack & met your fellow mates & other owners you worked for & YARNED ABOUT WHAT WAS RIGHT & WRONG with the bus industry! But alas many of the people & bus companys have gone to that big depot in the sky & THOSE MANY FAMILY bus companys taken over by bigger groups who have no heart or sole, the only thing that counts is the profits! gone are the days were the owner knew your family .the Christmas partys, were you did things for them for free because you were LOYAL to that compant & staff stayed for years ,Often dads,& sons.& daughters worked there. You looked after your bus or coach like your own car! that's bus show I attended was at Olympic park ,Not the same it was smaller had no feel about it! People were different to me it was TO commercial & TO sterile! lacked the care free days of Fairfield or warwick farm ,To me it needs to be more out in the open as Olympic park was to small & cluttered! but maybe that's just me looking for the OLD days!

Thanks captainch. Where would be the ideal location to hold the show? The should it be an indoor event? Where do you they have the motorshow there? Would that be suitable? I think people need to suggest some ideas to whoever runs the show so that something can get done.

I certainly have memories of the muddy Bus Shows at Fairfield, and I think a few at Warwick Farm were also quite 'wet' on the ground. Certainly made a mess of a few new bus interiors. I can understand why the need for a more weather proof location over time. One of the first one's I went to had a bus auction associated with it at Fairfield and I think the whole Golden Tours fleet was on display for the auction, photo below.

The auction with the fleet from Golden Group Charter Coaches P/L / Golden Tours was on 28 August 1980. There were 24 vehicles listed for auction on that day - not sure that any vehicles from any vendor actually sold ? This was the second year that an auction was scheduled on the day after the bus show ended. From memory at the 1979 auction only a pair of Albion Viking (no relation !) Vk55s from Ventura in Melbourne sold - after these 2 years the auction was not repeated.
