Thats a great collection of historical photos of Fearnes. I hope people can add more photos to your topic.I'd like to see a complete history of their bus and coach fleets. What about those refurbished buses that were featured in "Truck& Bus" Magazine?

Great to see some of your terrific photo's again Dave, and to spot the Globite school cases. I've missed those.

It could very well be GM as far as i saw on that visit it was the only Star Bros Reo, the other 8 normal control Reo's i photographed were Propert bodied.
I might say about that photo of MO 3524, those two mechanics were so proud of those buses and the way they were maintained and rightly so as Fearne's buses always looked great.

I'm glad you noticed the Globites Centralian, i'll have to have a post one day featuring all my Globites, maybe not as i don't want to swamp the board. :P

We was too poor to have a Globite suitcase. Firstly I had a wooden suitcase, then a Duperite suitcase. GM

Welcome back to the Board Dave.

Great shots and memories as always.

Always liked those bull nosed REO's. Kogarah had a few of them well into the late 50's/early 60's before the under-floors took over. Globite cases. Would love to see some more photos of them mate. Just rescued one recently.

Like many other colourful operators, Fearnes and their pride of ownership along with their loyal employees are sadly now gone and replaced by the conglomerates.
Only remarked on this point yesterday to one of my old lags re Red Transit & Roy Carpenters buses down to Hurstville Grove on the old 115 run.

Hope you are well & the cows behaving themselves. Looking forward to some more posts.

Kind Regards, m/o 5537

If it wasn't for the HD Holden in the background, I would have thought the first shot was taken in the forties sometime ( apart from that somewhat hi tech looking electricity transformer thingie on the pole behind).
Thoroughly enjoyed all the photos, particularly the Bedfords.

Swift, that "apart from that somewhat hi tech looking electricity transformer thingie on the pole", is what is sometimes called "A Pole Mounted Sub Station". GM

Hello GM, Also known as a 300-500kVa Pole Mounted Distribution Transformer. 1940-1950's issue - Full of horrible carcinogenic oils and one of the real hazards for the modern power distributors & contractors. The Enviro types get very excited when we have to remove these old boppers. Recall dropping one from a pole by accident in SA back in 2005 and all hell broke loose.

Hi m/o 5537, having served my apprenticeship, in the early fifties, at a company manufacturing Switch and Control Gear, there is nothing nicer than being up to your armpits in Transformer Oil?

Maybe having Brake Fluid running down your sleeve when bleeding the brakes on a bus? GM

Hello Boronia & GM.

Ha ha GM. Just come off a job in Port Kembla where your comments were nearer to the real truth than we choose to admit in these P/C correct times!! That is why I am retiring early as an HSSE&Q "Wally" on 1 July 2016. Anyone would think we were playing around with radioactive fuel rods! Roll on my next part time employment adventure in the real world with time to visit that Fire Museum at Penrith and to have a chat about Ford D Series Tenders amongst other far more interesting subjects. Hope you are both keeping well.
Kind Regards, m/o 5537
