Photos trams arriving at the old Tram Musuem, National Park.

Post by Leopard_071 »

I hope that I am not "over killing" with all these photos from the late Ted Davies. there have been a few people saying they are thier photos but all I can say is that all the photos I post came from his collection. many of the "Tour Photos" were Ted's and he was many times the driver of thoses tour trams. 8) :D  P/s I have no idea in which order these trams arrived at the old site I am open & gratefull for any help offerd. Also as we all know all of these trams are now restored and operate and great service to the public at ther prsent Tramway Musuen at Lotus, thanks to the work and decication to the many early members of which was SPER in the early days.

The derelict K type is actually 1296. The late Norm Boxall had a habit of changing numbers on trams.

Some of the trucks used for these early movements were almost as interesting as the trams.

I'm gonna need you to provide a source for this. Because K 1296 is actually in the ownership of the Sydney Tramway Museum - and has been since 1956 - and as research will tell you, 1296 has had this number since the day it was launched in 1913. Certainly had this number when the museum acquired it.

No, the K class tram seen in the photos is actually 1295, owned by Norm Boxall from 1955-1997, then by the STM from 1997-2015. And like with 1296, 1295 has had it's number since it was first built. So I'm just gonna assume that the caption and your reply are both typos. Because, just to reiterate, both the K class trams that were preserved in the 50's have had their current numbers on them since they were first built, and they've been unchanged since.

And yes while Norm Boxall did change tram numbers, that was mainly for his C car, which was renamed from 57s to No. 12 when restored back to passenger condition.

Kind of sad seeing that 1265 in such a bad condition. Do they intend to restore it?

It's been nearly sixty years since closure, and these dramatic shots really show how majestic they looked, particularly the toast rack. Such a tough looking front.
I imagine they would have inevitably received the Phillip Shirley blue with the NSW logo on the side. Imagine that.
Unapologetically hate attention seeking bus pax.

Nice bit of nostalgia there Leopard 071, it is great that today we can celebrate the current magnificent Sydney Tramway Museum that started from those humble beginnings. I remember working at the early National Park site when before it was powered up we had to push those heavy trams out of the depot by hand. What fun.
In relation to Norm Boxall's K car you have shown, i have enlarged and sharpened the photo and the number on the front is indeed its real number of 1295, the rust on the metal makes the figure look like a 6 instead of a 9. Unfortunately this tram was one of the trams destroyed in the arsonists attack on the old site storage facility.
