How we got Mo 724.I was the Manager at Westbus formerly P/matta Bus Service in 1982 when the Late Roger Graham as G.M. wanted D/deckers on the Castle Hill & Rogan's Hill Rte,s. we brought 6 from a company at Penrith who imported them from the U.K. 5 of the 6 came from Leeds {West Yorkshire} and the 6th from Sheffield.

Hey umm, the photo of the mark 1 Volvo isn't 4800, it was a single door 53 seater and that one has two and the second door is a lot closer to the rear axle that the early two doors. It's from the era of 7205, 7300, 7299 and so on. The last decker photo would be 724 and 645, old 643 had a different body and was a single door and the two in the piccy are the same.

You are right Peta Mechanic, I did intend to put 645 just a mistake on my behave, as I know that Mo643 was the decker from Sheffied U.K. You have shot me down with 4800 as you know I was the manager there at the time I should have known better the bus was 7300 I am pretty sure as it is a photo of the bus that mounted the gaurdrail on James Ruse Drive returning from a "Night Ride" shift and it was nicknamed "The Monorail"

It's an interesting issue, nicknaming a particular bus and could probably fill a thread all of it's own!

A couple from my dim dark past are m/o 5241 "The Lemon", no matter what bus this plate graced it was a heap of s**t. I pity the poor owner of it now as it's on reissue! m/o 007 Jimmy Bond (obviously)! m/o 4995 not quite 1/2 the bus some others were. m/o 066 Clickety click...(once again obviously). And there are so many more from companies I worked at in ye olden days!
A Red and Cream with emerald green lining Coachmaster bodied AEC Reliance AH 505, ahhh, now there's a real bus!

Sorry mate, gotta pull you up again! The monorail bus was 7884, it was in the days where I used to get overtime cleaning the windows and so on before they all went out for the night. Are you sure that it was 7300 that was in the smash? The reason that I ask is that it was a Nothmead bus and the one in the photo has the white edges painted on the wheels which was something that only Edensor park were doing by the time that bus came into being.

7884? I still remember Malcolm (the fueller) telling me about it on the Monday after the accident, he'd had a long night washing coaches on the Friday and was just about to lock the gate and drive home and he heard a really loud crash not too far away, wondered and if memory serves me even more correctly, he took a drive down to the Windsor Road/James Ruse Drive bridge to go hom and saw it on the barrier in the distance. He cursed his luck big time!!

I know that I'm cramping your style here but I'm not trying to outdo you,

It was a really good bus that one and yes it did have a huge prang early in it's life, before I started there actually. It used to be out on the road for about 16 hours a day (Mon.-Fri.) and then worked on weekends as well. That schedule happened for nearly two years straight and it changed not long after old Ken Gerke quit. I can't remember the name of the younger guy that shared the shift/bus with him though, it was Paul .......someone!

As regards to the lower headlight removal, from memory 2nd edition ADR's had heights (min & max) for headlamps.
It probably would have been the DMT in 1982.

I seem to recall they weren't too keen on fog lights back in those days (isn't that what those lower lights are?)

It is Ok to make mistakes ,but it is much better to admit them, of all my Boso photos I always thought that this was the 1 that mounted the Gaurdrail on James Ruse Dr. and we niknamed it the Monorail. May be the driver of it at the time will let us all know the rego, he is on the foram and travells down to Junee at times, I will leave it there. I was wrong but didn't it set "the cat among the pigeons" great stuff///////

Hey TD: isn't this the one Roger hit the awning in Parramatta with, one Saturday morning? The large corner store corner of Macquarie Street and Church Street- slight bend in the road as you aproached the stop. May be wrong though.

I'm not sure Geoff , I did make a mistake in saying Sunday I did mean Saturday, but I do know that Roger {as G.M.} did make a big deal that he was going to drive the 1st one. I know that I went to a wedding that day and missed the big show//////.But I saw the resault on the Monday morning and said to Roger "not only were you the 1st to drive but you got the daily double up" & you would know the sort of answere that Roger would have returned to me. Thank goodness I was the Manager in those days, in saying all of that I did always think that it was a tree. But maybe you are right. Oh for the good old days of Bonnjaks & Westbus some of my best days along with Calabro Bros were had while I have been in the Bus & Coach game.

What happened to those double deckers which were in use at Westbus? Why did they stop using them and did they eventually sell them?
