maybe because that's the only smooth spot for the sign? - they stick them up with some kind of bounding agent, why spend all the time drilling holes when a bit of goo on the back can do the same job in half the time

Thank you for spotting that hiccup, at least I corrected it in less than 24 hours. Look at the first post of this thread, I wonder how many more years it will take before that gets corrected.

Yes, I do know of them. In fact I have read them.

I don't believe it is publicly available online.

Incorrect: The sticker with new directional information doesn't seem to be wide enough.

1) Inconsistent: The wrong stickers are used as headings (on top of the screen). These stickers' heights are supposed to be used as headings for the line diagram below the PID screen. Devonshire Concourse, Central. (Compare that to either the Eastern Suburbs sticker or those at the Eddy Ave entrance in 3) Inconsistent)
Image

2) Inconsistent: What's the text alignment supposed to be? Centred, Indented to the Left? Devonshire again.
Image

3) Strange: The 3:26pm Central-Macarthur via Sydenham Express train is not shown at all, Otherwise it would be due in 3min.

This post is probably the most useless yet boxything... and just like on Railpage, people are running out of patience with these useless "Observations". I know I am.

I actually know the person who took that picture (definitely no connection to boxythingy) and who the person in the photo is, and if she knew her photo was going to end up used in this thread I think she'd look even less happy than she does there!

No offensive, but I don't think anyone really cares if a sign may not have the correct font or if a screw is loose on a sign.
It will be better to be spent to buy 5000 buses to replace the entire Central Coast, Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Southern Highlands Services - which will be 90% cheaper - Metroline

Did you see the conversation regarding the fonts as part of standards? There are reasons why specific fonts and text sizes are used. Just because you can read it doesn't mean someone else might be able to with the same without an additional degree of difficulty or for any other reason.

Look guys, if you don't like the thread, don't read it! simple as that. I personally think Boxy's thread here and the same on Railpage are interesting. A little anal at times, but none the less, it is interesting. People who aren't Public Transport nuts like us may find what we see as minor inconsistancies as inconveniences. Just remember, a lot of people out there are idiots, and may think a minor change is massive.

Thankyou Boxy for this thread.

Interesting: When did the box start to become orange? Devonshire Concourse, Central.

Strange: Everything was fine, but there was no list of scrolling stations. Wolli Ck. Pretty sure it wasn't a Drop off only train either.

Nothing uncommon there, Boxy. LICS does that.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a list of stations scroll for South Coast line trains at Wolli Ck. In what circumstances does it behave as pictured^?

When it feels like buggerising around. I've seen it in a few places. Nonetheless its a LICs fault

Inconsistent: NEWCASTLE SERVICE MAITLAND SERVICE... ALL CAPS!

Also the platform number "2" is the wrong font.

Where are the standards? :)

Inconsistent or Strange Sightings

Postby boxythingy » Wed May 16, 2012 6:12 pm

Inconsistent: 'North' Wollongong is aligned to the left rather than centered like most other station entry signs

SOURCE:

Inconsistent: Different style signs mixed use.

Also happens at Wolli Creek, and reported earlier at Dunmore.

Do you know what the correct font to be used on the signage is?

Also, would you class the Maitland and Newcastle service signs as directional signage? Just asking.

Frutiger is the correct font according to the standards available at: http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/file/abouttrans/signage-directives.pdf

That standards guide doesn't even touch the sides when compared to the CityRail signage guidelines.

Probably not. I don't really know. Why?

For this purpose, the sign below is common around the network and looks more official. It could be placed on the lightpole in front of the shelter. :)
