The Omnibus Preservation Society - Leopards 3753 and 1613

Postby fearnes3848 » Thu Oct 27, 2011 7:20 pm

The Omnibus Preservation Society (T.O.P.S) is proud to annonce that our member Atlantean 1016 has recently purchased the last built DGT PMC MK I Leyland Leopard 3753 and PTC Smithfield MK II Leopard 1613 from the Sydney Bus Museum in an effort to eventually restore both vehicles to their former glory with 3753 to be restored back into it's post overhauled state featuring the PTC's mandarin blue livery.

In the coming weeks, a thorough inspection will be followed by a Conservation Plan to ensure both vehicles continued integrity during preservation.

We wish, 2807 still belongs to the Sydney Bus Museum.

That's the first time I've seen a Leopard with later type single piece 22.5 rims!
It does modernise it's appearance.
Dying for a drive of an 0305 to relive old memories.

I was waiting for someone to pick up on that

It was necessary to change all the tyres before we left on Sunday to make the vehicle roadworthy, O305 rims and tyres have been fitted for now, these tyres will eventually be put onto the original rims.

All the Fearnes Leopards and Worldmasters also had their split rims removed and replaced with single piece rims.

I was told that mercedes rims are not the best for long term use on a leyland as the wheel nut tapers are to different & the wheel nuts come loose.

Is this correct?

What rims did they use for this?

I was told the narrow denning rims fit a leyland well and the wheel nut tapers match correctly.

If I can remember correctly a leyland rim may be OK on the front of a Mercedes but on the rear the hole in the centre of the rim is to small to go over the hub reduction properly. It will go but not tighten up correctly and then come loose destroying rims, brake drum and studs. Usually the hub remains OK.
