Re: [STA]R Scania 3711 with new doors
I must say very interesting.. will have to look out for this bus from now on, to have a look for myself.
Is there a reason why it got these new doors fitted?
Cheers Adam

Re: [STA]R Scania 3711 with new doors
3711 did have an accident back in early 2008 with bad damage to the nearside at the front of the bus so the bus was repaired and put back into service. But 3711 came back from Nymans Tamworth painted in the Volgren livery with the original doors fitted so I can't see why 3711 would need a new set of doors for? AEC Decker would know the reason for 3711 getting new doors fitted I reckon.

Re: [STA]R Scania 3711 with new doors
I think having a "doors opening" message with a delay to open the doors is a total farce, and the doors closing for the front would be really annoying for the driver and pointless anyway because it's right in the driver's view. However, I think it is a good idea for the rear door. To make it less annoying, they should minimise the delay switch and use a voice that isn't a pain to listen to several times a day!AEC Decker wrote:The explanation is here STA Observations (April 2009)

3711 came back with the Scania cap fitted around the wheel nuts after the bus was repaired for accident damage.roger wrote:is it just an illusion or is the hudcap around the nuts

Re: [STA]R Scania 3711 with new doors
I'm still not clear on what the explanation is for the new doors. Is it a trial to evaluate the effectiveness of door voice-overs (which would now seem redundant with the voice being turned off)? Or were the doors replaced for some other reason, and the voice-over is incidental?

Re: [STA]R Scania 3711 with new doors
The doors were replaced and ultra sonic sensors were fitted above the doors in lieu of the optic sensors in the door rubber edges. The door rubber edge sensors are notorious for playing up if water, dust or dirt get in causing doors not to open or more often not to close.Mr Bean wrote:I'm still not clear on what the explanation is for the new doors. 2 ultra sonic sensors were placed on the inward side, above the door edges to monitor entrapment, a third sensor detects passengers when they standing on the platform close to the door.
The voice-over was just incidental. 3711 has new doors, new door control motors and new associated hardware and electronics fitted.

Re: [STA]R Scania 3711 with new doors
Ah ok, so the purpose is to trial new ultra-sonic sensors.
I must say after driving Ansair buses for a long time then getting back in a Custom or Volgren one I find the slow door speed a little annoying. In the Ansair buses the doors shut very quickly and off you go, no messing around. They do malfunction occasionally but i don't think any more frequently than other makes of bus body door. This door speed issue is mentioned frequently by drivers at Willoughby, likely exacerbated by the time it can take for the B12 to grant permission to release the interlock with the accelerator.
