Once upon a time....... Rutty's Bus Service part 3
Here's why I loved visiting Wollongong in the '70's. Nirvana
This is the first one I need help in identifying please. I'd guess an AEC Regal 111 with body conversion. (identified in post below)
I also need help with identifying this unit please. A White with perhaps a HWR body ? (identified in post below)
In 1974 Rutty's acquired Harris of Albion park with 2 normal control vehicles, an International and White.
That's all for this Rutty's posting from me. Hope you enjoyed as much as I did re-living the memories. I have freely shared these images with you, please respect that in your appreciation of them. It's annoying when you find others passing off your pictures as their own. Cheers !

Re: Once upon a time....... Rutty's Bus Service part 3
The first unidentified bus (the possible AEC Regal ) - I think you will find this is a Foden PVSC6 with a MBA body remodelled by Ruttys. It was registered 6126 and was withdarwn in 1973 when the plates were transferred to an ex MTT Adelaide Leyland / Freighter Lawton. The second unidentified bus is former 6139 a White remotored Bedford 300 petrol with a Waddington body. 6139 became an ex MTT Adelaide Leyland / Freighter Lawton in 1974.

Beautiful collection GM. Thanks for sharing. I hadn't seen a MAN of that era before operating in Australia, certainly a very European/German look about it (despite the small Syd Wood windscreen). And the Foden, and Waddingtons White. Really captures the evolution of bus transport (in Wollongong) right back to the dirt tracks. In my shot in Part 2 of the Bedford KM/GM TV 490 in the background I suspect are the remains of the Waddingtons White you've posted above.GM wrote: may I offer a few Historical Photos of the Rutty's Fleet from the KM/BCA Collection and from my own Collection. "Is there anything here that isn't an AEC Regal 111?
A Regal row"
Yes 4 Leylands m/o 6123 m/o 6124 & m/o 6190 I also think the last one in the photo we can't see the front of is Reo m/o 6137
sorry m/o 6123 & m/o 6124 is not correct
oops the pic sends me back to like last week but alas the memory not so quick m/o 6190 is second from the right the other 3 Leylands were m/o 6182 m/o6183 & m/o 6184 when the photo was taken I could have told you which was which from this distance so the other 3 Leylands could be either of the 4
(after seeing the pic of m/o 6123 on this page all I could remember was they had consecutive rego numbers sorry) when I worked there m/o 6123 sat in the graveyard with the side cut out & was used as a storage shed

Hello Centralian & GM.
I for one have thoroughly enjoyed viewing your shots at length this evening. What a wonderful, eclectic collection of buses there was in Wollongong in the 50/60/70's.
Keep posting gents as there are types like me that will always appreciate your posts.
Regards, m/o 5537

Re: Once upon a time....... Rutty's Bus Service part 3
If you go back through the archives or early posts there have been a fair few postings by various people on the Wollongong fleets. I've previously posted under "Once upon a time..." on Dions, John J Hill, Hills Highway Tours, Greens, and Keiraville. Whether the photos still appear I don't know. Also some personal albums can be accessed through the Board that have images of these fleets. I'm still to tackle Beatties, Horrell and Watts.Royal Roamer wrote:Thanks for sharing these great pics, do you have pics of other operators vehicles in Wollongong around this time such as John J Hills and Keiraville BS

I came across this bit of Ruttys history:
https://neilcommonplacebook.files.wordp ... =616&h=616
And I thought Mt Keira Rd was hairy nowadays. This is almost like that "road of death" in Bolivia! I assume it's not pausing at a bus stop.

Re: Once upon a time....... Rutty's Bus Service part 3
It has a missing rear wheel. Does that suggest it was done just for this road and the bus was not used for regular service at the time the picture was taken?

Re: Once upon a time....... Rutty's Bus Service part 3
Imagine using that bus for the Wollongong free shuttle!
You would need the wheel to support the weight of all the people riding on the roof and holding onto the sides.

Great photo collection.
In photo 8 of the ex MTT Adelaide AEC Regal 111,was that originally a half cab? Or was it always a full fronted bus?

Started with MTT as a half cab - they were all altered to full-front while still in service in Adelaide, as I recall ....

A prince turned into a frog perhaps? What is the benefit of enclosing the hot engine and adding more glass and bodywork?
