Re: Wellington trolleybuses
I've heard the trolleybuses are going after June 2017.
Re: Wellington trolleybuses
Can anyone tell me which routes are currently operating trolleybuses, especially those ones which have them during the day. Last time I was there they seemed to dry up at 9am on the routes I wanted to ride on, so any advice would be appreciated.
Enjoy.

Are there still any trolley buses operating in nz.

Re: Wellington trolleybuses
How long ago were you last there? On my last two visits over the past 18 months, they were most common on routes 1, 2 and 7 during the day and night. Back then, they were hard to spot on route 3 and from what others have told me, probably even harder now.Rick R wrote:Can anyone tell me which routes are currently operating trolleybuses, especially those ones which have them during the day. I was last in Wellington in 2011, hence my request for some more current information to help me catch the elusive creatures
Enjoy.

From what I've read elsewhere, services are hit and miss. Forget about weekends.
Council has some plan to go to "electric buses" (battery powered).

Re: Wellington trolleybuses
I had the pleasure of spending 4 days in Wellington last week to ride and photograph trolleybuses and was accompanied by a senior NSW gunzel for the last 3 days.
They appear to operate all of the routes with overhead (including the peak-only 6) during the weekday peak periods. On the Tuesday I observed them operating during the day on routes 1, 2, 7 & 10, but Wednesday to Friday they were also frequent on the 3. There are diesels spread amongst them at all times of the day, so waiting patiently for a trolleybus can be testing at times. Numerious stops are equiped with electronic 'next bus' signs, making it easier to decide to wait for a bus or to move on to another option.
I have put some shots in the NZ Photo section.
Speaking to some of the drivers, we got a variety of feedback on when the trolleybuses are to be withdrawn from service and why, but it appears that no firm dates have been announced and that work on converting trolleybuses to battery-only is being kept under wraps.
Hopefully some kind of farewell will be organised and advertised when the final date is known.

Re: Wellington trolleybuses
Alas the trolley buses aren't running anymore. If any of the wires are still up, is there anything that could be done to convince the authorities to put them back?

The wires have nearly all been removed by now.

But still, can anyone convince the authorities to bring them back, especially given there are no plans to de-electrify the suburban network?
