Whatever happened to the collection of ex NZR Steam Locos and the Railcar that for decades were stored by the Dairy Company Store, behind the Racecourse in Te Awamutu, owned / operated the Waikato Branch of the NZRLS? Most of the locos were owned my Les Hoskins.....????
I did some work there in the late 1970's, and last visited site about 5 years ago. Im currently working at Te Awamutu College and went to the site yesterday to photograph things(10 August 2010) and all the items were gone, the site now used by a local Contractor for storage etc.
Can anyone advise where all the locos etc have gone? I
am advised that the last loco left by road some 2 years ago...???

Re: Te Awamutu Steam Locos...
I remember hearing some 3 locos were sent to Auckland, unsure whether it was Mainline Steam or Glenbrook vintage railway?
If I remember correctly also there is a NZ Rail sceen segment which covers their move to Auckland.

If you Google Earth / Maps the site....the locos etc are still there.....covered by their corrugated iron 'roofs'....
I wonder when that was.?

Re: Te Awamutu Steam Locos...
AFAIK the Wab that was at Te Awamutu was sent to Glenbrook and is tucked away in a shed, whilst the other 2 engines (a Ja and something else???) went to MLS Auckland. I did notice another Ja when I was at MLS in July. I do know for sure there is nothing of a preserved-nature still at Te Awamutu.
New website up and running, showing mostly trains and some trams.
