According to scottish passengers ,stagecoach were once the best company ever to serve the public, nowadays they get the same stick as firstgroup and the rest...i think the public expect too much nowadays from bus companies.K270UB6 wrote:They retainted the good old Candy stripes and were in Wellington in 1992/3 and in Auckland by 1998. They old their NZ ops to Infratil in 2005 for nominal $250 million.
To my knowledge from living and using stagecoach buses in Aucklaknd. I think they had quite the okay service. I found the phone and email replys were top rate and their drivers? Well lets just say drivers will be drivers![]()

Today they are set up by busimess men the thought of money makingIt's sad, but there are still loads of good family owned and operated companies out there. If government lay's off the red tape a bit and private investores keep their hands of then I think there are a few good companies out there that are really good.
As for the public we've got to look at the fact that high fuel prices and densely populated areas have seen the near death of cars and forced people to catch the bus or train. People are always expecting a low floor, air conditioned, clean and a seat they don't have to share when they get on the bus? Oh well I'm sure if passenger numbers keep going up then perceptions may change?

I think the model has changed over the years from a pre-July 1991 era of public ownership running as a subsidised taxi service, to a post-July 1991 of completely for-profit services (with a minimum of subsidies if any at all), to what we have now which is moving more toward the centre of a true Public Private Partnership.
Just my 2 cents.

Well that tendering system did not bugger too much though,it's just the way how marketing system works, money talks... However the goverment should enhance their legislations in order to supervise the behaviors of these PT-related companies.
