Where to find 2021-2034 SG240 Auckland

Post by a350a380 »

Hi All

I'm after getting one of these before they leave the fleet completely which I understand will be early next year.

Understand they operate peak only Mon to Fri in normal route service.

I understand route 255/258/267 group also 22X and 24X series as well as 881 have seen appearances throughout August and September.

I have had no luck in seeing one this month. Could anyone in know let me know where I'm going wrong or point me in the right direction.

Many Thanks

I understand this but which particular routes or duties are they regulars on?

I can tell you that the Shore services operated by Articulated Buses are - Route 873X > Constellation Station to City Centre Express @ 6:45am and Route 839 > City Centre to Long Bay @ 5:05pm. They will continue to operate until the New North Shore Network is implemented in September 2018.

Thanks this is very helpful. I caught a Wiri based one on a short route 267 from Dominion Road to city just after 8am. It was 2022. I shall check out the 5.05pm this evening.

Talking of similar for anyone interested browsing this thread, I will note the SL243s are very much still in service in Wellington too as well as ex Christchurch SL202 on Kapiti line rail replacements with NZCS.

Regards.

I've seen them do 007 a few times, but it seems more random rather than set time. There seems been a fair bit of movement of old bus around the old network, i noticed a lot of old buses on 274/277 inbetween doubles this week, lot more old wiri buses being used. With the trollys retiring a decent number of buses have gone down to welly.

My guess is all the old buses will probably end up on shore (being the last to switch to the new network) Will be interesting to see what buses get put on central network next year

Yesterday morning. I saw 1123 SL243 on route 258 city bound at Mount Eden train station 08.45.

Very surprised to see one of these in route service in Auckland. I thought there were none of these left in service.

1123 is listed as scrapped on the fleetlists well certainly withdrawn. I can confirm this is not the case.

For anyone who knows - Is this going to be a regular on any service? I'm going to try and see if it's out today.

Thanks

1120, 1121, 1122 & 1123 are based at Shore Depot as School/Charter Buses. Very rare that they are allocated to service trips, must be due to a shortage of Buses as a lot of the older fleet is being sold off reducing the operational spares.

I caught 1123 in service again today. This time I had a ride on it. It was on a service 258F from Dominion Road city bound approx 9.45am.

NZ bus are clearly short of vehicles as it had no ticketing equipment or card readers. Everybody travelled for free. Sounded healthy. I wonder if they will fit it with ticket equipment if it keeps getting used. Never thought I would be able to ride an SL243 in route service.

Also saw SG242 (SG240?) 2025 and 2029 in service both on 267 too.

I wasn't aware it didn't have any ticketing equipment, i guess they must be very desperate. I would agree NZ Bus have sold a lot of older buses & with sending some down to wellington to replace the trolleys, i suspect they have very few spares at the moment. I'm not sure if changes on 10th Dec will free up any vehicle for them, otherwise it will be like it for good 6 months until the new central Auckland & Wellington network kicks in mid 2018.

Howick & Eastern fleet must be getting a downsize come 10th, but i think they already sold there excess buses & currently loaning some to fill the gaps.

There will be a lot of old buses on the scrap heap by the end of 2018
