Return of the Outer Circle

Postby 1whoknows » Tue Aug 28, 2018 7:22 am

The Andrews Government is today announcing a mostly underground ring rail line from Cheltenham to Werribee via Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Box Hill, Doncaster, heidelberg, Broady, Airport and down to Werribee. Huge! It is to be known as the suburban rail loop. Source 3AW and channel 7,

It's not the Outer Circle, it's on another alignment. Way past the original Outer Circle. But still big news, at 90km, this will be very long and very big. I'm hoping that the line will have a very high average speed (70km/h+) so that it can effectively serve these suburbs.

90km, 30yr construction timeline yet only 400k pax predicted in 2051.

I can see sense in the Sunshine-Airport being continued to Broadmeadows but unsure about the full loop.
