Re: All Other Victorian Bus Observations 2017
Spotted last night turning out of the Skybus car park at the airport was the Bustech bodied Volvo Hybrid that's been up at Traralgon for the past few months.
Only pure speculation, but Skybus may be trialling it due to their connection with Bustech?
Cheers,
Mitch

Re: All Other Victorian Bus Observations 2017
Yes, its mainly used during the day as I understand it but perhaps with the new Avalon run those buses might live there overnight. we shall see. More of a sub depot than a second depot.

Sita #86 (Volvo B10B/Volgren) was operating quite late into the evening yesterday for a high floor, I rode it on the 21:30 route 427 to Sunshine West, the last trip of the night.

Since closer of Carnegie station notice that driver group has been running the shuttle service for the replacement train service .Normally Ventura or CDC who normally do the train replacement for Dandenong line I found it odd that driver has got the contract running low floor buses in driver livery
Re: All Other Victorian Bus Observations 2017
Probably either driver or bus availabilty.josh01 wrote:Since closer of Carnegie station notice that driver group has been running the shuttle service for the replacement train service .Normally Ventura or CDC who normally do the train replacement for Dandenong line I found it odd that driver has got the contract running low floor buses in driver livery

I've noticed two white Optare Solo's sitting inside the Sita depot at West Footscray earlier today. Anyone know what these are being used for?

Noticed Dee Decker Tours MAN SL200 Mk1 outside Camberwell Station this morning. This would be rare if it was running train replacement services. It took off before I could get a photo or number. Anyone else see this?

Was interested to see a now privately owned ex-National Custom Coaches Mercedes Benz LO812 being driven around Templestowe early on a Saturday morning. Of course these have now been replaced by the Optar Solo and Enterprise Bus Desingline Plasmas. Can't believe how packed you see some of the routes they used to run (eg. 270, 365 now 271)

Decorated bus stop
Roderick.
Melbourne Express: Friday, February 17, 2017 .
A bus stop in Heidelberg Road in Alphington has been transformed into a 70s-era living room.
It's not the first time the stop has been renovated - it was turned into a 50s-era lounge area last year.

Re: Decorated bus stop
You would think that decorating a bus stop on one of the worst routes in Melbourne (I'm assuming that's the APM factory in the background so it would be a 546 stop) is a little odd given there are other local stops that would be much higher profile (eg, the 508 stop at Alphington station which has twice the number of buses on weekdays, as well as evening and weekend services)?

Re: Decorated bus stop
I think that may be the only reason that bus stop was chosen, since practically no-one would ever use the bus stop given the level of service it receives.

'Passenger' - a play in a bus
I the spirit of Storming Mont Albert by tram, Storming St Kilda by tram, and Storming the Yarra by ferry, in earlier years. I did a St Kilda which was city - St K - city. Earlier versions had been St K - city - St K.
Roderick.
March 23 2017 In 'Passenger', your everyday bus ride takes a dramatic turn .
At one point during Passenger, a new production by Melbourne theatre-maker Jessica Wilson, a woman apologises to the man seated next to her on the bus for overhearing his conversation.
"It's that thing where when you're trying not to hear – you hear everything," she says.
Beth Buchanan and Jim Russel star in Passenger, a theatre piece set on a moving bus. Photo: Joe Armao, Fairfax Media.
Much the same could be said of the production itself, in which the audience is carried along with the two actors (Beth Buchanan and Jim Russel) on an ordinary suburban bus, overhearing a conversation that starts out in a very quotidian manner, and gradually evolves into something far more urgent and meaningful.
With a script by Nicola Gunn and direction from Ian Pidd, the discussion canvasses everything from children's Christmas presents to horrible bosses, milk pricing to Saudi Arabian blood money.
The bus becomes a travelling stage show that leaves from Footscray (or the Arts Centre on Sunday) and weaves into and around Docklands before returning to base 60 minutes later. It is quite literally a dramatic departure from conventional theatre, and the effect is strangely – but not unpleasantly – discombobulating.
During a preview show this week, Docklands dwellers and workers stared at the bus as it ambled through the precinct: men in suits wore exasperated expressions as they talked on their mobile phones; a woman pulled on her son's hand to stop him walking into its path. It was hard to tell what was staged and what wasn't.
A general sense of creeping unease is bolstered by a sometimes Morricone-esque soundtrackwhich dips in and out of genres, from eerie country to orchestral to off-kilter, jazzy percussion. At times there is no music at all; at others it rises to a menacing volume.
"I was sort of thinking about the windows of the bus and how they're almost film screens," says composer Tom Fitzgerald. "I'm kind of providing a score for what's going on outside."
Passenger has existed in other incarnations; it was born out of an artist's residency at the Docklands that called for a site-specific work. The production culminates in a little-used truckie's diner stop close to the old Melbourne Yard freight terminal, offering a stunning backdrop of the city viewed from the west.
There's a distinctive Western cinematic flavour to Passenger, too, felt both through the score and in references throughout to the archetypal vigilante cowboy, hell-bent on righting wrongs.
The sense of lawlessness rife in Western films has a modern manifestation here in the context of greedy corporations driven by profits at all costs.
"We were interested in exploring people being disempowered and big corporations having this power," says Wilson.
"What if a cowboy came into that situation – what would they do?"
Passenger is on until March 26.

Cranbourne have nine newbies in process of delivery allowing the ex Sita to depart for their snow season work at Mt Buller. They should gradually disappear over the next four to six weeks.

Re: All Other Victorian Bus Observations 2017
Talking to a Cranbourne transit driver today suggesting that once the redevelopment is complete at Frankston station all Cranbourne transit routes are set to stay where they are. Drivers apparently aren't overly keen as they have no facilities where they currently are and due to the lack of layover space buses need to move forward when the one in front leaves to allow the next service to be able to get in, so they cant go too far. There is no where for rest stops along the way either on the 789/790 routes so potentially drivers may have to go a couple of hours without having access to facilities.

Re: All Other Victorian Bus Observations 2017
Just been made aware that the $10 Melbourne Visitor Shuttle is to be discontinued from 31 August. Ever since City Sightseeing started their double decker bus and the Free Tram Zone began, patronage has been struggling and the council has been providing significant subsidies. I believe it's operated by Driver Bus Lines.

The Driver visitor sightseeing buses are available for sale on various bus sites, so this would appear to be correct.
