Meanwhile, New Year's Eve timetable information for Transdev has now been published. The following routes will operate a more frequent evening service before midnight followed by an extended timetable until about 2am:
234 (Queen Victoria Market - Garden City)
250 (City - LaTrobe Uni)
905 (City - The Pines)
906 (City - Warrandyte Bridge)
907 (City - Mitcham)
908 (City - The Pines) - services extended to the CBD from 18:30 inbound & 20:45 outbound.
This is the first time 234 & 250 will operate an extended timetable, while DART passengers will have to rely on Night Bus 961 or 966 after 2am - in the last few years there was effectively a continuous overnight service on the DART routes.

Kind Regards

As usual, Ventura says Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Mooroolbark by not operating a single bus.

Great job by the keen staff at Frankston Station who have printed off the various holiday timetables and handing them out to customers (they don't seem to have the new print-on-demand stock in yet)

Yesterday I was given 5 different stapled print-outs on asking for a current 788 timetable:
- One up until 25/12/2016
- One covering 26/12/2016 to 31/12/2016
- One for New Years Day 1/1/2017
- One covering 2/7/2017 to 29/1/2017
- and lastly one for 30/1/2017 onwards

Kind Regards

Just remember Ventura or any of the Metro operators set the days to be operated.PTV are responsible for funding that.

Whilst most of the changes posted above by Craig make sense - uni shuttles and short workings etc, it does seem a little backward that the regular Kastoria and Moonee Valley routes still have reduced services.

733's peak frequency along Middleborough Rd / Stephensons Rd drops from 15 mins to 30 mins over summer which is a little severe, especially considering the 630 from Elwood to Monash Uni retains its usual 12 min peak headway and there are still passengers using the route to reach Box Hill or connect with trains.

Just like the two dozen or so Saturday routes in Melbourne that still don't run on public holidays, the gradual approach to eliminating summer holiday timetables over the past decade (largely since the minimum standards rollout began) has left us with a few oddities that still need to be addressed.

Kind Regards

and in case of Moonee Valley reduce run times in AM peak too! Which are tighter than interpeak run times with end result being buses late in AM peak during Holiday results in gaps of over 30 minutes compared to 12-15 minutes during the normal timetable.

Hopefully one day the remaining holiday timetables can be scrapped. We've come a long way from 10 or so years ago when following operators had Holiday Timetables. Broadmedows, Dysons (513 & 517), East West Bus Company, Eastrans(605), Hope St Bus Lines, Ivanhoe, Kastoria, Melbourne Bus Link, Moreland, Moonee Valley, National Bus, Northern Bus Lines, Reservoir Bus Service, Ryans, Tullamarine Bus Lines, Ventura(selected routes)

Many of the past Summer Holiday Timetables made little sense with cuts to interpeak, off peak and night services in some cases by 50%. While in case of 2 operators as well as weekday summer holiday timetable there was also Saturday holiday timetables! As well as not to mention any run time issues with holiday timetables that at best only reflected first week but not remaining 1-3 weeks.

Agreed, in many cases it made little sense. You could certainly argue the case for thinning slightly a frequent service (eg, running a 10 minute frequency at 12 minutes and reducing run times slightly), but in the case of the East West 560 cutting the 25-30 minute peak hour frequency to every 45 minutes in summer was ludicrous. Especially when once it was absorbed into the 902 the following summer had a bus every 15 minutes along the same route!
Having said that, it seems we go from famine to feast. The orbitals for example waste a lot of time now sitting at time points post the Christmas sales until mid January. There would certainly be a case for graduated summer timetables maintaining the same frequency but shortening run times to avoid spending 5 minutes sitting at Reynolds Rd or Shoppingtown, or both! Especially now there is reasonably reliable realtime info, and a significant number of orbital users would be used to checking realtime info anyway now given the poor peak hour reliability.
