Number Plates

Postby Croc » Fri Apr 13, 2012 12:52 pm

Only a few years ago Victoria introduced number plates with suffuxes like AO, AC, NC, etc and I have heard that buses being registered now (with the exception of AO accredited vehicles) will now have plates that are from the same sequence as car rego. Can anyone confirm this and/or explain why Vicroads would do this and/or why they introduced the special number sequence in the first place.

I remember a few years back one operator was forced to remove the personalised plates he had on his fleet.

Thanks,

C

According to Vicroads, if I'm reading it right, the AC, NC and SO plates are being phased out. All buses will eventually be on AO plates.

See down towards the bottom of the page in the box on this web page:

A lot of the Coasters and Rosas operated by the rental companies, schools, churches and the like are slowly being re registered onto standard issue plates, from the NC plates.

When did the AO, AC, NC registration plates get bought in? I can still remember route buses in Geelong with standard 'On the move' Nxx-nn plates in the late 1990s.

The AO, AC and NC and other accrediation plates came into being in 2001. Buses were reregistered from late 2001.
