I was caught right in the middle of Metro's signal stuff up today between Oakleigh & Dandenong. Buses replacing trains, with huge delays. Buses in the replacement include Nuline, Crown, Victorian Touring & Grendas.

Re: Victorian Rail & Tram Observations January - June 2012
The rebranding from Metlink to the new PTDA as commenced with the tram platform at Albert and Nicholson Streets being the first (I think) anywhere with the new signage. The logo is contains the letters PT> ( including that symbol) as well as some fancy squiggles in the opposite side. Sadly this reduces the operator logo to barely visible.
It looks ok but on the all green signage at this stop it could also be considered a tad tacky

Finally the veil has been lifted, this will be applied to the signage at all stops for all modes.
The PTDA name is defunct, it will be known solely as PTV - Public Transport Victoria.

I went through there in a 733 and had to be very careful not to run people over - they were basically all over the road, with a sole "marshall" in an orange vest right up the front waiting for replacement buses to arrive.josh01 wrote:Major Delays On The Dandenong Line . Metro needs to get their act together and make sure they keep people off the roads and have proper marshall numbers in attendance at stations when these things occur, before tragedy strikes.

You'll find the "marshall" was just one of the station officers on duty that had to go out and try and keep order.

It's the same situation every time however if their is only one or two people manning the station its very hard to get them out to sort things out and obviously more time to get staff from other parts of the network. I do agree that it is slack and past experiences have been less than satisfactory in terms of customer service/support provided to those affected.Peter1805 wrote:I went through there in a 733 and had to be very careful not to run people over - they were basically all over the road, with a sole "marshall" in an orange vest right up the front waiting for replacement buses to arrive.josh01 wrote:Major Delays On The Dandenong Line . This weekend saw the Westall turnback being utilised for the first time due to the occupation between there and Pakenham/Cranbourne.

Tram B1.2002 is likely to be doing some testing on route 82 over the coming days. If successful, both B1s are likely to transferred to Essendon in the near future for use on the 82. A couple of B2s will be sent to Preston as replacements.

Why not just use the two B2's they would send to Preston on the 82 instead?

Route 82 has always been the historical dumping ground for the oddballs and unreliables of the tram fleet, an example of this is PCC.1041 which spent its last days on the 82.
As the 82 isn't as busy a route as East Preston's services if one of the B1s crap themselves (which without doubt will), a Z3 can cover that 82 shift with lesser impact to overall loadings than compared to an A class on the 86 or 112. Having more reliable B2 trams sent over to EP means more high capacity trams can be rostered on displacing A class services at high patronage times, like lunchtime.

Re: Victorian Rail & Tram Observations January - June 2012
So, the history of the B1 class trams.
#1, Camberwell depot, for route #75
#2, South Melbourne & North Fitzroy depots for the newly extended #96, and brand new route #111
#3, Where they sent to Southbank when the changeover happened?
#4, East Preston depot. I guess mostly for #112, but would they have seen service on #86 too?
#5, Essondon for route #82. Would the B1s ever see service on #55, #57 or #59?
So that remains Malvern, GlenHuntly, Moreland and Kew as the only depots for the B1s not to see service at/on.

The post saying it was being transferred was made before midday..

B1.2002 has been out of service for a while at Preston Workshops. Otherwise, both see regular service on the 86 and 112.

That was my first thought too but I didn't want to spoil it.The post saying it was being transferred was made before midday..
Keeping in mind the original post was a good attempt at an Aprils Fools Day joke, the problem with this theory is that you lose 2 high capacity trams from the 59 and replace them with two high capacity unreliable trams on a low capacity route, whose low capacity trams are used on the popular 59. Doesn't quite work.As the 82 isn't as busy a route as East Preston's services if one of the B1s crap themselves (which without doubt will), a Z3 can cover that 82 shift with lesser impact to overall loadings than compared to an A class on the 86 or 112. It most certainly did lack logic, but it was a late entry after a busy morning.krustyklo wrote:Keeping in mind the original post was a good attempt at an Aprils Fools Day joke, the problem with this theory is that you lose 2 high capacity trams from the 59 and replace them with two high capacity unreliable trams on a low capacity route, whose low capacity trams are used on the popular 59. The two ex VR trams (nos. 52 and 53) saw regular service on route 82 prior to their retirement. These trams were disliked by tram unions as they had a split windscreen with the split directly in front of the driver's line of sight.Connex wrote:Route 82 has always been the historical dumping ground for the oddballs and unreliables of the tram fleet, an example of this is PCC.1041 which spent its last days on the 82.

Re: Victorian Rail & Tram Observations January - June 2012
In situations where they cannot arrange sufficient "marshalling" in time to control a large crowd, the police should be called by the station staff, to assist in maintaining order, to keep people off the roadway, and to direct traffic until an orderly process is established.Mercedes wrote: It's the same situation every time however if their is only one or two people manning the station its very hard to get them out to sort things out and obviously more time to get staff from other parts of the network. It is not acceptable to have people milling all over the road, with the extra bus and car traffic that follows such an event. The police exist, after all, to maintain public order, so it is most appropriate that they be involved in assisting when required.
This is a matter which needs to be taken up at management level of Metro, as a matter of urgency, as it seems the same thing has happened a number of times recently, and not just at Oakleigh.

Re: Victorian Rail & Tram Observations January - June 2012
Metro site now lists Stony Point Line services that are canceled (replaced by buses) until further notice: http://www.metrotrains.com.au/About-us/ ... -Line.html
Makes for 5 trips per day canceled:
0539 Stony Point - Frankston
1147 Stony Point - Frankston
1341 Stony Point - Frankston (operates as train Tue/Thur only)
1235 Frankston - Stony Point (operates as train Tue/Thur only)
1835 Frankston - Stony Point
Slightly OT but one thing that seems really odd related to the line's timetable is the late night trips that run on Fridays only, extending the last train to be at about 9:30pm.. why on earth wouldn't these run 7 days a week? On any other weeknight the line finishes so early that it stops in the midst of what is still peak hour!

Re: Victorian Rail & Tram Observations January - June 2012
Due to the high demand for road coaches at SCS Vline suggests to customers to catch a Metro service to Werribee station and then organise own travel arrangements to get home. Vline understands that this is not ideal and we do sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.

Doesn't sound too good! Make own arrangements from Werribee? Bit of a walk to Geelong.
