I saw ZZZ last night. Not surprised given it is end of financial year and a number of manufacturers are well stocked up to do great deals.

Refer to ZZZ discussion earlier in the thread. This vehicle will undoubtedly be a COMCAR unit.

ZZZ could actually be the new state slogan.

That's one of the funniest posts I've read here ...

Victoria has some nnn-aaa plates floating around, these are for the DoT Electric Vehicle Trial (hence the 'EVT')

I wouldn't be too surprised if this is what the new numberplates are.

I'd be surprised. The whole reason all the states have unique combinations is to avoid traffic cameras issuing offences to the wrong car because states share the same combinations.

If VIC went down this path they'd get into strife as there a fair number of nnn-aaa plates in QLD which still have low letters.

If you ask me VIC's new motorcycle plates give a good hint as to what the car plates will become.

I doubt that.

I was travelling along the Hume the other day, and was musing over the sight of a Victorian rego, an NSW rego, and an ACT rego, all in the Yaa.nnn series, only minutes apart.

ACT no longer issues Yaa.nnn for that exact reason...

I saw ZYG000 on a Caprice. I'm presuming it's personalised.

I would think so. I think I saw a ZD(A-Z)-### today, I'm not quite sure. It was a Z plate though.

I asked my step-father whether he knew what the new plates would be (he works at a car dealership) but apparently, nobody has any idea yet.

I'm guessing that if they are up to ZF* plates already, the new series must already have commenced being manufactured.

Vic Roads has publicly stated on several occasions that they will be making an announcement prior to the end of the year about the new plates.

Found this interesting page on the Vicroads site :

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Reg ... plates.htm

I note how it no longer takes 5 years to exhaust each primary letter series of plates as it did in the early 1960s.

Ignoring the fact the population in Victoria was approximate half of what it is now in the early 1960s, you might also find that there was actually more population growth in the 1960s as well than there is today, meaning you would have thought the number plates would have exhausted each primary letter a lot earlier than it is now (if you ignore other factors such as salaries, shift to car ownership etc).

If VicRoads do recycle the numbers, I wonder if they would do GAA-000 to LZZ-999 first (pre 1977, black background, white characters), or AAA-000 to FZZ-999 (1978-1994, white background, green characters), given the latter had issues with the white paint peeling.

Personal preference: Would like them to stick with the 6 characters, so possibly XXXX-nn (4th letter however avoid letters such as B, I, S or O to avoid confusion with 8, 1, 5 and 0, but still give other possible combinations as long you avoid the offending 4 letter words...) or XXXnnX (which would clash with NSW premium plates and ACT) to give them more options.

Victorian Number plate slogan

Postby cal321 » Thu Sep 06, 2012 5:33 pm

I heard on the news today that the new (rather boring) slogan will be "Stay alert - stay alive"

It will start appearing on plates next year.

One would think they will have to exhaust all the Z series first.
