It needs to run every 45 seconds or it's not worth it IMO ;)

What would be the use of running it every 5 mins :?: :?: :? :?
new route 904 southland - cliffton hill via ringwood and wonga park
I doubt a long bus route would need to go through a place like Wonga Park.

Its just about impossible to serve Wonga Park without a long bus route. :P

Why extend it? It's long enough as is. Agreed it needs to be min standards on the whole route though.
werd wrote:new route 904 southland - cliffton hill via ringwood and wonga park
Why? I don't see a point. Southland's a pain in the arse of an interchange at current, and Clifton Hill is non-existant. It would be too long to suffice patronage. (That said, 903 may still exist, but I have my doubts if more will be created.)
werd wrote:new routes, 661 lysterfield loop -f.t.g,662 f.t.g-stud park. freq 5 min
Those two routes need to be created, yes, but to Upper Gully instead of FTG, and only every 20/30 min.
werd wrote:new route 905 ringwood - sandringham via chadstone
Simply put... No. No point in combining 822 & 742.

As to my own suggestions (after some deep thought, mostly for the North & West).
New route, 480, Broadmeadows Station to Werribee Station via Airport, Bulla, Diggers Rest & Caroline Springs. (Currently, excluding 400, there is no North to West zone 2 link. This would rectify that.)
As has been said (in other circles), 477/478 alterations, cutting out part of 475 & all of routes 467 & 501, with both going to Broadmeadows.
An alteration of route 465, via Hoffmans Rd, Rosehill Rd & Rachelle Rd.
New route, 535 from Coburg Station to Airport West, via Pentridge Village, Gaffney St, Pascoe Vale & Strathmore Heights.
New route, 576, from Epping Station to Mernda via Aurora & Wollert.
New route, 574, from Epping Station to Sunbury Station, via Aurora, Craigieburn, Greenvale & Bulla.*
New route, 534 (with the current 534 becoming 537), Craigieburn to Mt Ridley, Mickelham & Yuroke and back to Craigieburn direct.
New route 489, from Sunbury to Riddells Creek, via Clarkefield, Bolinda & Monegeeta
New route 435, Werribee Plaza to Bacchus Marsh via Werribee, Wyndham Vale, Quandong, Balliang East & Parwan

And I will eventually post more, so keep your eyes fixed on this post.

Couple of weeks ago I put up a post suggesting routes that used the basically east-west/north-south grid that exists in most of the east. That is routes that just go all the way along one long road such as Ferntree Gully Road or Middleborough/Stephensons/Boundary Road. If they were every ten or 15 minutes it would be a great service. The 693 is an example of what I'm trying to suggest. 901 now does it for Stud Road, 888/9 does it for Springavle Road but should go to Donvale to connect with city services and Doncaster services. 703 should go further north beyond Box Hill to Andersons Creek Road. 733 should run from Doncaster Shopping Town to Frankston. 734 should run from Knox City to Glen Iris. 623 should run from Wheelers Hill to St Kilda. 900 does what I want. 732 is a pretty good route. There should be a bus that runs from Lilydale to Camberwell via Canterbury Road. There is no route going along Whitehorse Road (684 doesn't count, it's only once a day) Is this feasible?

I expressed annoyance at routes that go around and around back streets and double back on themselves like the 736.

Many other ideas: A bus could run from Mitcham station along the current 736 until Vermont South, then follow existing 742 to Gallaghers Road. Then Viewmount Road, FTG Road, Jells Road, Wellington Road, Jacksons Road and Chandler Road to Keysborough. A long north/south route.

Someone needs to start a route from Emerald to Rowville via Lysterfield along Wellington Road as this is a fast growing area and there is currently no service.

I could go on forever. 827 is a good route. So is 800 & 630.

There needs to be a Highbury Road bus.

But there is a railway line parallel to it, and a tramway along the western end! :)

I do see the point in providing a feeder for those who live between stations, but I'd rather see it as parts of more local routes rather than a wastefully long route duplicating the railway for a long distance.

Along Whitehorse Rd, the gap that I see is the Nunawading bulky goods precinct which is a decent walk from the station. I don't know how feasible a bus would be but IMO it's not a high priority.

Hmmm... 823 is one I kinda have respect for. (although, looking it up on Metlink, the header comes up with 823 - North Brighton - Southland via Moorabbin, Southland )

I'd personally extend it to St. Kilda (as 921 if St. Kilda), or cut the Brighton-Moorabbin Portion off & add it to the Clayton-Moorabbin portion of 824, with the rest extended to Elsternwick.

(Off the topic, I'd love a service Elsternwick to Mordialloc straight down the Nepean, but in peak hour it'd be slow as all get out)

Southern X/ Lonsdale St- Frankston via Hoddle St/ The Eastern/ Eastlink. End of Story.

Multiple new Park & Ride facilities at major roads ONLY along the entire length of eastlink, bus stops at minor roads.. (same set up as at Middleborough Rd, Bus exits Fwy, Stops at a bus bay, then re-enters via entrance ramp..) with the park & ride stops along eastlink, they would be one's where the bus drove in and out, not had to do a loop etc like at Doncaster.

The eastern/ eastlink freeway flows really well all the way, in either direction, apart from the last few km's into Frankston at literally any time of day, and of course, At the Hoddle St end there is the emergency/ temporary "bus lanes" in the left emergency lane..

If I ran this company I would run artics every 5 mins during peak.. If it ran well provided it wasn't held up by Ventura/ National Buses in the city  .. this would SURELY take the pressure off Connex and the Monash Freeway a little..

sounds good to me yueses. I have often wondered why there couldn't be express buses on the Monash from say cranbourne, pakenham, berwick, narre etc where the traffic is at a standstill at 6 am. Of course it would not work until all the upgrade is done but surely it would be an option for taking the pressure off connex.

These are really good suggestions.
How hard is it to pump some money into these kinds of projects? Seriously.....
They have merit and would be used sufficently im sure.
Anything new for the 500 ( Broadmeadows to Sunbury/Victoria Univeristy via Melbourne Airport) ??? Especially now the uni is closing down...................

500 in my opinion should continue to Gisborne via Riddles Creek (direct) and Gisborne Station. Cuts out the School services run by Sunbury & Gisbus, and provides a fulltime service to that region.

It should at least become min standards on the Broady-Sunbury section.

One more new route: 435, Werribee to Bacchus Marsh via Wyndham Vale, Quandong, Balliang East & Parwan (Every 1/2 hour, or 40 min)

Here's one that I've been thinking about for a while:

448:
Hoppers Crossing station, Morris Rd, Andrew Rd, Taronga Rd, Westmeadows La, Marquands Rd, Leakes Rd, Palmers Rd, Australand Dr, Mt Derrimut Rd, Paramount Bvd, Davis Rd, Foleys Rd, Mt Derrimut Rd, Deer Park station.

It could even triple as a local feeder between Truganina and Hoppers Crossing, local/industrial estate feeder between Deer Park and Derrimut, and a cross-suburban route between Deer Park and Hoppers Crossing.

Hmmm... I was implying the Gisborne-Sunbury service of Sunbury's.

One more new route... 446.
Werribee Plaza to Laverton, via Hoppers Station, Truganina & Williams Landing (I think it's called that  )

Footscray - Sunshine - Ringwood - Dandenong - Frankston, then off a cliff........

To the five major holes of Melbourne? Nah. No money in it.

I reckon building a Casino outside of Werribee (Sewerage farm maybe), and running a free shuttle one way, $100 back would be better.
