Tasmanian State Budget 2013/14
Here are the public transport road related allocations for 2013/14 announced in yesterdays State Budget;
Passenger Transport Subsidies
Metropolitan General Access Regular Passenger Transport Services $38.87m (2012/13 - $37.73m)
Rural and Special Needs Schools $21.71m ($19.49m)
Non-Metropolitan General Access Regular Passenger Transport Services $7.45m (2012/13 - $8.12m)
Metro Tasmania Additional Subsidy
Purchase new buses, off bus infrastructure, research & marketing $3.30m ($3.25m)
DIER Passenger Transport Infrastructure
Allocation $4.22m ($3.75m) includes P &R funding from 2012/13 reallocated to 2013/2014
Passenger Transport Innovation $0.41m ($3.20m)
Notable Capital works on roads in 2013/14
Rokeby Road $7.50m, Ferry Rd & waste water treatment $5.17m, Huon Highway $2.04m, Richmond Heavy Vehicle Link $2.50m, Arthur Hwy $9.0m, Bell Bay terminal and Main Rd $4.37m, Murchison Hwy $11.00m, NE Freight Roads $25.02m, Tarkine $7.66m.
The regular Passenger Transport subsidy increase is only 1.1%, although 3.0% for Metropolitan services. I suspect the Non Metropolitan reduction reflects the withdrawal of some of the services trialled last year (Port Arthur, Lachlan etc).
The day of reckoning for Metro's fleet continues to be deferred. This years capital allocation, being similar to last years, could only fund four articulated or six rigid buses, well below any reasonable fleet renewal target. There are currently over 75 buses that are 20 or more years old, and another 50 odd reach that age in the next two years.

YES, I estimated that too (number of buses) when I read how MUCH was to earmarked for new buses At this rate, I should be well & truly IN MY GRAVE by the time Metro are 100% accessible I found VERY amusing, the allocation of $680,0000 for a TRIAL of a high-frequency service between Glenorchy & Hobart so there is a bus AT LEAST every 10min between 7am - 7pm weekdays. Maybe McKim should get his head out of his a#@e and READ a timetable, cause my reckoning is $680k will put a LOT of buses on that route between 6pm - 7pm, as there already IS a 10min header (or near enough to it) AND even if they DID increase services, as mentioned above, WHERE are they going to get the buses to DO those additional servicesroyaltiger wrote: The day of reckoning for Metro's fleet continues to be deferred. Re: Tasmanian State Budget 2013/14
Speaking of Artics, how are the CB80's coming along? Did Metro actually officially order them in the end?
