Railway display Claremont Plaza.

Post by leyland clippers »

There has been a display put up in Claremont Plaza in the entrance near Video-Ezy about the railway station that used near where Claremont Plaza is now situated. There is a phot of the old station building plus a couple of other photos and arisits impressions as well. this also used to be a junction for the railway line up to the Cadbury factory which used to transport workers to and from the factory also to transport freight to and from the factory. very interesting.

Also where the double track started heading to Hobart ,2nd track now forms part of the cycle way. The Cadbury branch was also used in it later days by the Tasmanian Locomotive Co I think they were called to access the yard at Cadbury's where the stored their rolling stock and steam Loco's they now DVR not sure of the exact history there. The train to Cadbury's also carried visitors to the factory for the tours when the suburban trains were running, also there was a workers train for the EZCo that branched off at Derwent Park Jcn to travel the branch line to the EZ plant some of that line is still there as is the bridge over the Brooker.

Yes that's right Steve there used to be a 7.10am, 3.10pm and 11.10pm train to transport shift workers to the EZ plant at Risdon. Apparently the workers at Cadbury had their own seats on the train and woe betide anyone else that sat in them. The train used to pull up exactly in the same spot everyday and these workers would stand exactly in the same spot and then get on and go to their seat. Mind you some Metro passengers think the some seats are there for their exclusive use  . The railway from Derwent Park to EZ is now non-operational and the track down near Gormanston Road/Tassielink depot has been removed for laying pipes.
