Route/Timetable changes 23rd and 30th September 2018
How will STA and TSA service kilometres change after the 400/420 split? Will there be other route changes to balance that?
Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
^ Service kilometres will increase for each operator even though the distance for each of the incoming routes 400 & 420 are not as long as the current 400, this is because route 400 will be 100% Region 9 and route 420 will be 100% Region 6.
There will be a number of service changes in September for Region 6 routes, possibly 308, 418, 436, 445 & m20. There are rumours about two services being joined together to create a new 'through-route' service to further reduce the number of buses terminating in the City.
The former STA Eastern Region (9) route 357 will be returning as well.

If the 357 returns as a R9 Route I presume it will be the old Bondi Jn to Sydenham route. What would happen to the 418 in that case. Would they terminate it at Sydenham, Tempe replacing the 425 or somewhere else like Mascot?
What kind of through route would they have in mind? They wouldn’t combine a route with a STA Route from another region and then have TSA solely operate like like the 389/440?
If these changes are coming in September, I guess we will get the offical annoucemenf August 31st at the earliest.

Re: STA Observations - July to December 2018
No mention of the 400 and associated changes. Will they be advised separately or will they happen at a later date? I had heard October as the date for those.

Seal of approval for new route 333N. I can only assume one thing what this means, which is bendy buses will replace the completely not-fit-for-purpose overcrowded Bustech VSTM that currently do the overnight 380. At least they are listening/responding to feedback here.J_Busworth wrote:Service changes for Bondi Services from 23 September.

Pity about M40 and it’s extension - the northern side of the harbour loses out again. Last time a Metrobus got extended operating hours, M20, of course, right up till Wynyard.

Re: STA Observations - July to December 2018
Not sure if 333N will use bendy buses. I tried to ask about why they can't use bendy buses on 380 services including the evening services. And they told me its because of some bus stops along Bondi road i think aren't big or suitable enough for bendy buses to stop at. If they stand by that statement instead of changing the stops to allow bendy buses then i fear 333N will just use regular size buses despite overcrowding issues.Jurassic_Joke wrote:Seal of approval for new route 333N. Why confuse people with 333N? Switching from limited stops to all stops?
Why not keep it as 380 or 380N and use artics if that is the intention?

380 will be truncated at Bondi Junction while 333/333N will continue to Circular Quay.boronia wrote:Why confuse people with 333N? Switching from limited stops to all stops?

Re: STA Observations - July to December 2018
I like how it mentions the 370 will run at 15 min intervals during the day probably will still have the same issues of bus bunching gaps in service of 30mins +. TfNSW/STA need to add running time not just add buses to just bunch up in triplets instead doubles.
Re: STA Observations - July to December 2018
Fantastic changes to simplify Bondi Rd routes. It's always perplexed me that North Bondi to BJI was served by 4 different routes that are practically the same. It's now simply 333 goes to the city limited stops, all other routes run all stops to Bondi Junction. The new Tamarama routing for the 381 to replace the 361 makes a lot of sense too, as does substituting X79 and X84 services with more frequent and articulated 379's.
Noting the 323 rerouting to North Bondi and the recent changes to On Demand in the area, Opal and OD data must have identified some real untapped demand for Rose Bay to Bondi Beach services. Also interesting that 323 has been retimed to connect with F4 services at Rose Bay.

I notice in the background image of the article one of the buses had what appeared to be a special 333 wrap. Now this is somewhat explains why R9 got to keep some extra bendies. It just a bit of shame that generally its Bondi area of Eastern Suburbs get additional services unlike other parts of the East maybe because the rest of Eastern Suburbs are safe Labor seats.
Bondi Rapid Route

Cue the comments on all door boarding...Eastern suburbs commuters will be able to ignore timetables and catch a "turn up and go" bus service that will run every three minutes during peak periods on a new rapid route to the city.
An extra 26 bendy buses will run between Bondi Beach and Circular Quay every six minutes outside peak periods and every 10 minutes at night from late September, Transport Minister Andrew Constance announced on Monday.
Mr Constance said the 'Bondi link' service would be a "high-frequency, high-capacity bus service" that would add 1100 services and shuttle an extra 29,000 people along the 333 route each week.
"It will enable more than 1000 extra customers to get on a bus along Bondi Road during the morning peak alone. We will also boost capacity by 10,000 on the weekends for families and tourists visiting Bondi Beach."
An overnight bus on the route will operate all-stops between the city centre and North Bondi, seven days a week.

Coogee is currently 53-47 to LIB on 2PP but the boundary cuts south of Bondi RoadFrosty wrote:I notice in the background image of the article one of the buses had what appeared to be a special 333 wrap. Re: STA Observations - July to December 2018
Route M54 received a first increase to services from 8pm till midnight every night on 5 June 2016, and from 6 May 2018 received night time services between midnight and 5am thus making it a 24 hour route.Jurassic_Joke wrote:

in those same service changes M52 got an extension to its operating hours by replacing evening 520 services from 7pm till midnight
From 19 February 2017, the 610X trips between the City and Castle Hill were renumbered M61, thus the M61 was extended to run until midnight.
A sad day on Oxford Street for the mighty 380 indeed. Although I think this simplification and change will help with the overall reliability of route 380 while no longer running such a long and congested route from Watsons Bay to Circular Quay via Bondi Beach.stupid_girl wrote: 380 will be truncated at Bondi Junction while 333/333N will continue to Circular Quay.
Then and again, I can't recall how many different short workings/terminii that route 380 has!

Video with more on the wrap.
And the catchphrase "turn up and go" gets yet another mention.

If you notice carefully on-top is the red air con unit so some metrobuses have the wrap applied. Minister Constance mentions 26 bendy buses fleetlists shows 19 at the moment. So I'm assuming there will be some transfer of units from P to W.moa999 wrote:Video with more on the wrap.

I guess you can say goodbye to bendy buses on the X93 & 309.

The vestigal tram replacement network continues to be whittled away. RIP X84 and Fletcher St diversions. X79 saves no time these days from the three stops it skipped on account of increased traffic, so I suppose no loss there.

Why change one week out from the end of term? Perhaps to keep it from drowning in the forthcoming Station Link messaging? Doing it all at once would have made more sense to me.J_Busworth wrote:Service changes for Bondi Services from 23 September.

I can't understand why they don't just paint the buses red and call it metrobus?
