Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
I'm personally hoping to see some 14.5s on the new 420, with P maybe sending their 14.5s on the new 400. I understand none of them are likely to be around for long though.
I did see some 14.5s on the L94 and 392 over the past two weekends, at least 3 different buses were out each time. Last time I looked I couldn't find a 14.5 on the 288, but people I know who catch them say they still run, mostly in Peak.

There were a number of M's 14.5s out on Epping Road services last weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.

I suspect that the WIlloughby Scania L113TRBs will be withdrawn soon as 3 Scania K310UBs have entered service on Thurday.

I am referring to #2901, #2902, and #2903 which are Scania K310UBs with CB80 bodies.
Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
What, 18 of them? Those 3 K310UBs would be very busy indeed. And they've lost an artic to Waverley.idontknow556 wrote:I suspect that the WIlloughby Scania L113TRBs will be withdrawn soon as 3 Scania K310UBs have entered service on Thurday.
I can imagine buses being cascaded from other depots to push them out. Sure, Ryde has CRBs they could replace with their recent deliveries, but those have an expiry date several months later than the TRBs.

I assume that the Port Botany Scania 14.5Ms are going to be transferred to Waverley as I've noticed that Waverley has transferred a large amount of Mercedes 0405NHs to Port Botany to make room for these vehicles.

I've looked at the route 420s timetable and noticed that there is quite a lot of high floors running on Sunday.

Can someone remind me (can't accurately read the fleet lists in this regard), are Randwicks L113CRL's, are they all the inaccessible variant? If I see one on the 370. its always the inaccessible one and as such, only appears on the route during weekday peak hours.

If memory serves, gld59 mentioned somewhere that R have only one WA L113.Jurassic_Joke wrote:Can someone remind me (can't accurately read the fleet lists in this regard), are Randwicks L113CRL's, are they all the inaccessible variant? Yep, the wc-accessible CRLs show up with a seating code of B43DW, the non-chair ones as B45D.
3693 is Randwick's only chair one.

Bus #3435 has quite a decent ZF for a 14.5M Scania L113.

I've noticed that there have been some Volvo B8RLEs delivered today, wonder if they're here to retire the Scania L113TRBs.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Was quite surprised to (hear first) see 3417 on a 393 to the railway as I filled my car at the Woolworths Caltex on Cleveland St yesterday about 4:40 pm.
It had a real deep bellow to it this one.

Should be completely illegal to use Scania Ansair Orana L113CRL on days above 30c - I don’t care what the mouthpieces at STA say, the fact is, they do not have working air conditioning, it was the exact same thing last summer, and likewise in winter, everyone freezes on them.
Travelled on two today (couldn’t even use NextThere to avoid them because real-time was down), and it was hotter than Satan’s core. They need to go.

^ My sister got one today as well. She said that the AC was broken and driver kept on having to stop because the engine was overheating. For some reason, it appears to be still running around on 473 as seen on Anytrip, despite the driver requesting a bus swap.
Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
If the bus was constantly overheating surely it would been best for the bus to return to depot to prevent any further mechanical damage. Transit Systems runs pretty lean from what I've seen maybe there weren't any spare buses availablesunnyyan wrote:^ My sister got one today as well. Some of the Scania Ansair L113CRBs had hopper style windows so some air could get until they were replaced and sealed shut. Some routes in particular shared by R & W which have the L113CRLs & CRBs its often the worse during summer ironically you find them on services heading to the beach filled to the brim. I once had to endure a ride in a L113CRL on the 400 towards Bondi with no working AC I got off at Randwick and instead got a 348 behind which was operated by Volvo B12BLE.Jurassic_Joke wrote:Should be completely illegal to use Scania Ansair Orana L113CRL on days above 30c - I don’t care what the mouthpieces at STA say, the fact is, they do not have working air conditioning, it was the exact same thing last summer, and likewise in winter, everyone freezes on them.

I'd be interested if P sent out any 14.5m buses this evening with the hot weather but I guess they did for peak bus requirements in particular some extra buses overall needed for SOP route 4 this evening.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
The Orana Painias have always been hopeless on hot days where they need to switch off the A/C when they are needed most, to stop the engines from going into three figure temps. They come from a cold country, but you'd think they would be aware of different climates since they sell trucks in many markets around the globe with hot climates. STA should have chosen Volvos for all their low entry Orana fleet, especially after experience with the 14.5m batch. This nonsense of allocating certain depots with Scania and others with Volvo was unnecessary. The Scania was plainly an unfit product line. The Volvos may have had some problems of their own, but they had a much more pleasant smooth ride, with less rattles.
The government has a history of repeatedly committing to large batches of shitty buses, then throwing money at them to keep them on the road for their operational life.
Bruce Baird's decision to cheap out with Scania in the 1990s has no doubt cost the government a lot more over time.
