Region contracts expiring in 2018

Postby Fleet Lists » Mon Jul 16, 2018 4:24 pm

According to my records a number of regions have 5 year contracts which started in 2013 and hence would expire this year 2018.
Regions 1 and 3 October
Regions 10 and 12 January
Regions 7, 8 and 9 July
Region 13 May
Region 14 April.
So except for regions 1 and 3 these contracts have either already expired or will expire this month.
Have there been extensions to these contracts or are my dates wrong?

2019 Regions 2, 4, 5 and 15.
2026 Region 6.

My question is, how proactive does the operator have to be in implementing improvements to win over TfNSW to award the contract?

I guess "continuous cycle of improvement" is the keyword these days.

The Newcastle contract was a 5 year contract with a 5 year extension based on KPI criteria being met, so perhaps something similar exists with the Sydney contracts. There is often a clause within government contracts allowing them to be rolled over. Often needed with government departments notorious for missing deadlines.

I am well aware of all that but I am trying to find out whether any of that has actually happened. When the Transdev contracts were renewed five years ago without retendering it was no secret but this year we do not seem to know what is actually happening.

The contracts were issued as 5+2+1, the 2 years being a default extension unless significant under performance, and the 1 as a flexi year to suit TfNSW work cycles (and politics one assumes).

We may see more tenders announced after the election next year for those first four contract areas in preparation of a contract commencement date in 2020 onwards.

The first sign of activity will likely be a call for expressions of interest here https://tenders.nsw.gov.au/ much like this one. https://tenders.nsw.gov.au/?event=publi ... 0445B7C0ED Can't see anything similar, so nothing appears to be on the go.

STA regions 7, 8 & 9 were officially renewed in February this year. The contracts were all for five year periods although the CEO advised staff the the contracts were only three year periods, maybe he meant 3 guaranteed + 2 as the extension. People here may be familiar with the fact that TfNSW & STA struck an in-principle agreement in December 2016 to strike a new 5 x year contract for each region 12 x months early which was all hinged on the STA restructure (commenced in 2017) to reduce costs.

The restructure was finalised earlier this year and STA are continuing to squeeze money out of all areas of the company in a desperate bid to keep privatisation away.

Is Mainbar Bundeena Bus Service a sub contractor for Transdev in that area of region 10 if so then If Transdev loses the region 10 contract to another operator then will that operator continue to sub contract the 989 out to Mainbar Bundeena Bus Service

That would be a matter to be resolved between Maianbar and the new contract holder.

If the new operator says no to let Mainbar continue to run the 989 and the operator doesn’t aquire the Bundeena depot for the 989 then the operator would have to run buses between the Taren Point depot and Bundeena

or they could just outstation a bus or two and swap them over between peaks for periodic maintenance.

Let’s see if the Dunn Group put a bid in for a contract or Buslines Group might bid for a metro contract if they want to venture into Sydney
