What are the tiny instruments attached to the bottom flange of the rails through Platform 20 at Central? Are they adjustable? How do they work?

I understand they are survey markers for checking possible subsidence when they start metro tunneling under Central. The same system is in use along the Main South line between Picton and Tahmoor due to the mining subsidence there.

Maybe for placing into another Museum not the train station. It would be sad to see Museum station advertising to change to those large scale LCD/LED screens that come with audio.

It's amazing the SMH can publish a news article before Transport NSW can publish a service alert.

Looks like they are putting in replicas similar to the new roundels. Have look at the Mark Foys one that is partially up on the St James end of Platform 2.

It’s Sydney Trains that doesn’t put them up, not TfNSW. NSW TrainLink on the other hand always has.

Museum station restoration works

Looks like they are putting in replicas similar to the new roundels. Have look at the Mark Foys one that is partially up on the St James end of Platform 2.

Some years ago, when work was being done on the Museum station pedestrian subways in conjunction with new building construction, the old 1920s tiles and signs in the subways were carefully dismantled and preserved in specially-made storage frames at great cost, then stored at Eveleigh for reinstatement later in the project. When it came time to collect and refit them, they were gone.

I was told later by somebody that they were subsequently seen at a private railway museum not a million miles from the Blue Mountains, but my general disgust at those many thieving rouges known as transport enthusiast collectors prevents me wanting to patronise any of their establishments to go and have a look. Much stolen property like this eventually finds its way onto the private antique market after the original criminal dies or is simply thrown out on the tip by their families who don't know the value of it. I find it hard to bring myself to talk about this issue even now, but we can see in this case that the taxpayer is now having to fund the loss resulting from somebody's private gain.

Between Waverton and Artarmon, the medium speed aspect of signals is being removed, thus lowering the speed of trains. It is believed that this is because the headways in the Waverton area are too close to the theoretical minimum to avoid a system collapse should even a minor thing go wrong.

In respect to the removal of the Medium Aspect on some Signals, when it comes to Peak Hour with trains at high frequency, the Driver is likely to go at full track speed passed the Signal, now showing full clear, which previously would have shown the Medium aspect.

The Driver is now not given any advance warning until he faces the Caution aspect. However, in that corridor, especially Waverton to St Leonards, the trains do go somewhat slower due to the tight curvature of the track. Therefore, the Signal at Stop is probably well within braking distance.

That is disgusting and such selfish behaviour. These things are the history of this country and belong to the people not individuals!

T2 all stations to Homebush trains are extended to Olympic Park this weekend (but skipping Flemington). Showing on indicators as T7.

Richmond trains also diverting to Olympic Park after Lidcombe and not going to the city. They are still showing as T1.

Yeah, the reason for the Oscars going to Blacktown is because there is trackwork on the Blue Mountains Line, where trains run from Blue Mtns station to Blacktown only. The H Sets are do the Blacktown to Central part of the normal journey.
Although, funny that the Oscars and other trains are atill operating on the Main Western (but probably the local tracks). So then what is the point of the trackwork? The V Sets from the mountains could just use different tracks and platforms.

Intercity V sets are commencing/Terminating at Blacktown due to Trackwork in Sydney Yard with the majority of Platforms closed.
The OSCARS are more suitable for the extension of the Service to North Sydney.

V sets have certainly been used to North Sydney in the past. Is that a recent restriction on their use?

They must need to use double the sets and crew for BMT this weekend?

Seems strange to make customers swap trains at Blacktown instead of runnning the V set through to Platform 16 like has been done many times before for both North and West intercity trackwork weekends. I’ve been onboard V sets both across the bridge and around the city circle.

In recent times, 4V weekend services have run through to North Sydney, but 8Vs have terminated at Blacktown, with a connecting suburban set to North Sydney.

Usually if V sets run via City Circle its late night services when there are reduced services. Interesting OSCARs are used between Penrith & North Sydney normally its suburban sets either A or T lack of suburban crew or something.

How would a regular passenger know the train even goes through Penrith?
