Ch 9 News tonight claiming that the new budget will provide "thousands of extra bus services" for Sydney

When do fare increases get announced??
Last year it was 10May for implementation 3 July.

I'm expecting a minimal increase given the election cycle, and certainly no way overdue change to pensioner/senior prices.

I could so see the end of route 534 when 533 gets its upcoming boost. The 534 is now just a short working of the 533 given it was truncated on 26/11/2017 from West Ryde.

^ I could see the same thing happening. I'm surprise this didn't happen during the 26/11/2017 timetable changes as the former trips to and from West Ryde were limited extensions and the single trip that diverts via a retirement home (Hart St, Lane Cove) on the way to Chatswood was transferred to the 533. The only thing now unique about the 534 is the single trip that divets via the retirement home heading to Ryde. The previous two timetable updates for 533 has seen this service gradually develop with potential to grow into an extensive timetable.

What is everyone's thoughts on the 2 new northern beaches routes coming online later this year? (announced in the budget bus boost):

- 141 (Manly to Austlink via Balgowlah, Wakehurst Pwy & Northern Beaches Hospital) presumably operated by STA
- 193 (Warringah Mall to Austlink via Frenchs Forest & Northern Beaches Hospital) presumably operated by Forest Coach Lines

60 weekly services from SOP to Chatswood -- over 5 days this represents 12 services per day, or 6 services in the off peak in each direction. Not a lot....
(notwithstanding this service is to be extended to the weekends as well.... unless this is 60 brand new services which come out of nowhere, and not counting the 534 extending to SOP).

110 services per hour — that could be 55 per direction split between the five routes. Not every route will run 10 buses per hour.

Feasible, but could be better worded.

I see the 313 made the list on the SMH, very glad to see so. The route suffers from severe passenger displacement during weekday peaks and on Sundays, when it has an abysmal hourly frequency.

I am wondering what happened to the 24 hour 400 and 423 from last years budget?

i'm assuming the 400 & 423 service changes will be once TSA takes over Region 6.

I have to mention the X10 made the list would probably be safe to assume it's a singular additional trip during the morning peak to reduce overcrowding on 309/310 services.

The situation involving more services for route 400 has been briefly discussed in the franchising thread. R6 is severely short of drivers so both STA & TSA will operate routes 400 & 410 after July 1st.

I don't understand why the all night services for route 423 were not implemented in the May timetable changes as was mentioned in the TfNSW press release for new services in the 2017/2018 budget. There would only be a handful of drivers required to operate between the last trip and first trip the following day.

I have a gut feeling that when the 533 becomes a full time service, then the 458 might get diverted to SOP Wharf or otherwise.

This might allow the 526 to also skip the wharf and provide an even quicker journey.

Given Ryde to Concord Hosp is already well served, it makes sense for the 458 to serve Wentworth Point and the Hospital, and also provide a potentially quicker journey from Wentworth Pt to Strathfield.

On matters of money, economics, and transport investment.....
The Sydney Morning Herald of June 8, 2018, carried a report headed "Regime change to reveal 'real' value of projects". Apparently a more realistic, lower, discount rate for project evaluations would tilt analyses toward public transport projects. Grattan Institute was involved in the analysis.

This is old-ish news now, the Grattan report came out in March and newspapers covered it back them. Ross seems late if he's writing about it now.

I was pretty much on the money - 2.2%, nothing for pensioners/ seniors
