Private Observations - January 2018 to June 2018
Re: Private Observations - January 2018 to June 2018
Don't forget new timetables and service changes since sunday,so deckers may be on the run all the time now
Re: Private Observations - January 2018 to June 2018
The 07:10 and 07:20 trips ex Blacktown were (and are) the first two trips. First trip carried 73, clearly showing the need for higher capacity beyond a standard bus.Bjwh86 wrote:Hillsbus 6525 Bustech CDi is running the 8.25am route 611 from Blacktown to Macquarie Park this morning.

If that happens then why didn't Busways remove their route pointers from the Campbelltown routes before they handed region 15 over to Busabout these route pointers originally popped up for the 2002 Busways reorganisation of the Campbelltown and Camden area routesiamthouth wrote:Operators are responsible for route pointers.marcnut1996 wrote:Just asking, who's in charge of these direction signs? Because they had to hand over the region in an operational status - ie route pointers had to stay.

I think the reality is why would they bother spending money removing them.

Busways don’t remove route markers unless it interferes with current operations. For example, in Westmead you can still see 760/735 markers, and in Glenwood you can see a 747, and Kellyville Ridge there’s a 741R/S Marker

This has me wondering to what extent has has an effort been made to remove obstructions from routes for the deckers? Have they only done it for routes currently mooted for deckers or for other routes in preparation for possible deckers in the near future as well?Richard290 wrote:Spotted Hillsbus’s 6527 decker at Macquarie Centre running a Castle Hill 619 service at approx 10:10am today.Bjwh86 wrote:Hillsbus 6525 Bustech CDi is running the 8.25am route 611 from Blacktown to Macquarie Park this morning.

Hi All,
I have never posted in the NSW thread before but I was unsure where to post. Can you advise who ever is responsible for maintaining the fleetlist that an ex-Deanes unit classed as withdrawn is now with Cyrils Coach Tours which are not listed in Fleetlists. TV 5423 is the Rego. Currently helping here in Melbourne with the Pakenham / Cranbourne Rail Shutdown. This photo I took at Westall Railway Station on the 9.6.2018

- Remains of 7818 MO & 6797 MO now gone from the Thornton CDC Depot, likely off to scrap.
- Unknown Mercedes-Benz 0405 NH CC 550 broken down along New England Highway near Stockland Greenhills around 3:50 PM
- 3653 MO a Mercedes-Benz 0405 NH CC 550 transferred to Singleton Depot ? (A Singleton Driver was spotted driving it this morning on School Bus "180" Yes 180 that's even long after HVB switching to 4 digit school route numbers)
- 3628 MO a Scania K230IB Volgren SC222 spotted operating 189 Thornton Via Chisholm this afternoon, probably the first time in a while that a High-floor bus has operated a service route since 180 and 179 switched to 100% low-floor buses.

Is this CDC? What model/body are these buses and how many of them?ScaniaGrenda wrote: since 180 and 179 switched to 100% low-floor buses.

180 operates mostly out of Singleton depot, so pretty much either O405NH/CC550 or MAN 12.220/CB30.
179 operates mostly out of Thornton depot, so pretty much any low floor bus there, like K230UB/CR228L, B7RLE/CR228L or Optimus. I’ve never seen a small MAN from Thornton on 179 though

That school bus 180 displays both “RUTHERFORD SHOPS 180” and “SCHOOL BUS 180”. It operates as 180 to Rutherford, then continues as a school bus to schools in East Maitland area. General public can make a connection at Rutherford for Maitland and GreenhillsScaniaGrenda wrote:- Remains of 7818 MO & 6797 MO now gone from the Thornton CDC Depot, likely off to scrap.

Thank you. These all appear to be low-entry buses, not:Xplorer wrote:180 operates mostly out of Singleton depot, so pretty much either O405NH/CC550 or MAN 12.220/CB30.

^ and many above
I remember growing up and climbing front door stairs to go past the driver to enter a bus, and presumably this is not a low floor.
But now there are buses with flip out ramps and flat entry.
And some rise at the rear with stairs to get to the last 5 or so rows of seats.
And some with no steps at the front door, sloping floors, and steps at the rear drops.
I wonder if the cognoscenti could share details and definitions of the different bus floor type?

Re: Private Observations - January 2018 to June 2018
Internationally throughout the tram and bus sectors the standard accepted terminology is:
Low-entry for vehicles with stepless doorways and aisles throughout the area of the vehicle spanning all of the doorways, but beyond this area is typically a high floor. The vast majority of Australian commuter buses fall into this category.
Low floor for vehicles with a completely stepless floor throughout the whole area of the doorways and aisle (collectively known as the gangway), from front to back of the vehicle. Often the last row of seats at the back involves a step-up because of mechanicals underneath but this doesn't affect the definition.
Seating is typically not included in these definitions as some seats have to be located above the floor mounted on plinths or platforms because of mechanical components underneath. There are however some tram designs that are completely low floor with all of the seats on the floor, not involving a step-up. Buses by the nature of their mechanicals are not able to achieve this.
I wouldn't even dare to categorise VSTs and XDis because they don't fit either definition, the worst of both! Bustech and some other manufacturers here also use the term "ultra low floor". This is a load of cobblers that some advertising standards people should pick up on. The only street transit vehicle that can lay claim to this term is the Vienna ULF (Ultra low floor) tram which has an entry height about 150 mm above street level. Very clever but the mechanical complexity and maintenance costs of it ensure that the design won't be repeated. An accessible entry level standard across buses and trams nowadays is about 300 mm off the road. Floors can be ramped inside (within reasonable limits) to meet the low-floor defintion, but the critical issue is that there should be no steps anywhere in the gangway.
So far only Iveco (ex Renault), MAN and Scania have offered low-floor bus chassis in Australia, but Volvo has recently made a spectacular entry with orders for 58 low-floor hybrids in Victoria for CDC and Latrobe Valley. As Volvo seems to be Australia's favourite bus manufacturer, hopefully low-floor will catch on more.
