I did feel sorry for a colleague who waited at Chatswood for over an hour for a train via the ECRL. All others in that time were diverted via Gordon express to Hornsby.

The Timetable calls for a "Standby" train, 8T set, Run 106, from 0620 hours until 2200 hours, Saturday and Sunday.
However, the Olympic Park Line is closed from 0200 hours Sunday, Feb 18, through to 1500 hours Wednesday, Feb 21.

Delays this evening on T1 line. I'm on a T2 that has just passed a bunch of trains on the express track.

Tangara had the issue, the Waratah behind it was eventually brought up to the platform and offloaded through the driver cab door.

Silly question department.......Why does the up platform departure screen at Gordon show the ultimate destination of all trains as "Central", when we all know that's not the case?
Other stations show the true final destination on the platform indicators.

Why do such trains show destination signs of "Central", when we all know that's not the case?

Presumably because for train run-number purposes, trips change from Up to Down at Central.

Talk about "putting the customer at the centre of everything we do!"

As all of us would be aware, in the days before the ECRL, trains would travel Hornsby to Hornsby, either via the Shore and Strathfield, or via Strathfield and the Shore.

Trains would use one Run Number thoughout the trip, Hornsby to Hornsby. The destinations shown were usually linked to the trip. It was claimed that this was a confusing issue for the Programme being used and it could not readily process a trip starting and finishing at the same location. To overcome this a New Run Number would commence each time a train departed Central to/from the Shore Line.

With recent Platform Indicators, this aspect has been overcome to show the full destination, but it does depend on the location and destination.
Gordon is a case where you can go, for example, to Epping a number of different ways. To avoid any confusion, a train going Hornsby to Epping (via the Shore and Strathfield), will only show and announce stops to Central.
At last visit, January 12, Up services departing Gordon for destinations West were showing and announcing stops to the west, e.g. Blacktown, Penrith, Schofields.

From Berowra to Chatswood via Gordon, all Epping Services show central until they get to Chatswood and from there it is advertised as Epping via Central. Richmond, Emu Plains, Penrith and Blacktown services are showed as their final destination the whole way

The destos for Epping via Central change to Epping via Eastwood at Central and then "via Eastwood" drops off on approach to Eastwood.

Noticed a M set stabled at Auburn Maintenance Centre displaying Adamstown via Dungog as its destination. The North Coast locals are often agitating for a better service, maybe this is it. :D

Incorrect. In the days before the ECRL, most trains from the North Shore line went to Penrith or Richmond, and they were described as such. Trains for the Strathfield-Hornsby line supposedly started mostly from North Sydney.

This nonsense of labelling trains as going to Central never happened before the ECRL.

Since the ECRL started, it has changed several times, and does different things on different days of the week or times of the day. At the weekend, trains to Penrith all run through Macquarie Park, and trains to Richmond and Epping run through Gordon. That's what all of the ones I have caught recently have been doing.

That would be incorrect.

When the original 1994 LED based Station Passenger Information (SPI) indicators were rolled out to Hornsby, all trains showed "Central" when running via the Up Shore line.

By the time every station received the new dual screen Windows based indicators, all stations from Hornsby to Roseville inclusive showed "Central". Irrespective of final destination being Penrith/Richmond or Epping.

Since around 2011/2, every Western line train has been showing its ultimate destination from Hornsby to Roseville, and every Epping via Strathfield train has continued to show Central as its destination as "Epping" would potentially confuse new users of the system.

Yes, Epping starters via Northern Line show Central via Strathfield (as do Intercity trains).

At Central earlier today T1 Northern Line trains to Berowra were incorrectly showing on the intercity platform departure indicators for CCN line.

Flagged it with a passing CSA who said it happened a few weeks ago too and she reported it as an error but never heard anything back.

That is just how the system classifies the route Central - Berowra - Central via Epping. No different to Ashfield - Central being T1 on the system.

Indicators are blank across the network this morning. Station announcement said an overnight upgrade of the system is taking longer than expected.

Also a friend up in the Blue Mountains tells me a 4V set failed on the way up to Katoomba and has been blocking the line for a while. Since they can't get it moving it will be rolling back down to Springwood in the wrong running direction until it can cross over.

Yes, no real time information. The stations with remotely controlled indicators were offline for maintenance.

Saw a tipped over portable crane at Central this morning at the substation upgrade site next to the Down Airport track. Seemed to be resting on a truck.
