NSW Railway Observations - January to June 2018

Not entirely rail related but due to the rails i guess

Princes highway currently has an extra 23 minutes of delays on the road at Tempe and that's with most companys getting half days in the area. The Cronulla line seemed to be every 15 in peak and then every 10 during the day which is odd?? and Illawarra parked all their rail replacement coaches next to the west connex site in Tempe and stabled 4 coaches at the 348 terminus at Wolli.

Lee St was full of coaches when I came past about 17.15, and there was a long line of buses on the Moore Park bus roadway shortly after that.

I assume the transport data feed was confused on what diagram applied - or Mortdale found they had a crew sitting around doing nothing so they dispatched an extra train into the system, but it must have had a run number and a table of some sort.

Some of the extra trains showed up in my tripview app as 'unscheduled service'.

That was happening a week ago during staff shortages too.

Monday's trains have returned to the Trip Planner as a normal weekday timetable, but it's still showing no trains running after about 9pm on Sunday night.

7 Waratahs parked up at Auburn today including 6/65/69 which appear to be positioned ready for the peak extras for the Foo Fighters concert later along with some stock hidden round the back including a tangara t106 I guess?
and two K sets.

Looking to make a connection for the North Shore at Hornsby this morning I noticed there was only 2 tph via Gordon rather than the usual 4 tph. Nothing mentioned on the TfNSW alerts so not sure if it's a similar story for other lines?

I think this is supposed to cover it - normal services do not fully return until Monday

Personally I think that's a pretty poor effort to just say 'expect disruptions' and leave it at that instead of listing the actual changes for each line.

Oh wow I had to actually wonder if my eyes were playing tricks on me when I read this, but it appears that Gladys has massively commended Andrew Constance for how he handled the mess in January 2018. Are you for real?

Okay.

"The state is lucky to have him as transport minister" .................. :|

Go ahead, keep saying stupid things, id love to see your Mafia mob voted out into oblivion in a years time!

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/premier-stand ... 0obip.html

Premier stands by her transport minister, after three weeks of train chaos

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has guaranteed Transport Minister Andrew Constance will remain in the portfolio until the next state election despite him coming under fire for his handling of the rail dispute.

While the boss of the main rail union has kept up his attack on Mr Constance, Ms Berejiklian said he had "done a great job" and the state was lucky to have him as Transport Minister.

And when asked whether he would still be in the portfolio by the time of the next state election early next year, she replied: "Absolutely."

Looks like it was updated into the Trip Planner at least a day before being announced. There's now a list of Sunday's last services here: https://transportnsw.info/news/2018/upd ... ial-action

Has caused some flow on delays as well to a couple of Penrith trains running 20-40 minutes late

That's quite a cut back!

Interesting reasoning..............

As the train network prepares to go back to the normal timetable for Monday, we’re still moving trains around to ensure they’re stabled correctly for the Monday morning peak.

What it comes down to is "We cut a heap of services to ensure everything would be stabled by midnight because of the strike, and we haven't reinstated them".

Of course she is going to say that, publicly.

The Telegraph has put this in a different perspective, pointing out how the relationship with the unions has deteriorated since she was Transport Minister.

Constance has been out doing media today. He said he's confident all rostered drivers will arrive for work on Monday and also suggested Sydney Trains were encouraging recently retired drivers to come back to work because they don't need to go through 12 months of training.

And Aunty Marge was in the news warning passengers to head off to work early, in case there are more sickies than usual.
