Signals between Asquith and Hornsby. Empty trains coming out of Hornsby Yard are given priority.

Sometimes stuck at a red signal for a few minutes coming into Berowra as well.

Trains will run to a significantly reduced timetable.
T5 Cumberland Line services are cancelled on Friday 26 January, a shuttle train service will run between Blacktown and Richmond.
T6 Carlingford Line services are cancelled on Friday 26 January with buses replacing trains between Clyde and Carlingford.
Some additional services will be available to supplement Australia Day services and major events at Sydney Olympic Park after 4pm.
Some information on the industrial action from Thursday
https://transportnsw.info/news/2018/tra ... ial-action

According to Trains Info Twitter looks like for Thursday they maybe attempting to run a Saturday timetable https://twitter.com/TrainsInfo/status/9 ... 2189647872
Interesting on Australia Day the T8 line Revesby trains will terminate at Kingsgrove until 4pm after that running to Revesby. One would assume Macarthur trains would run all stops to/from Kingsgrove.

Train disruptions due to industrial action
Tuesday 23 January

UPDATED: 6.15PM Tuesday 23 January

Due to planned industrial action train services will be significantly reduced from Thursday 25 January and through the Australia Day long weekend.

Bus, ferry and light rail services will continue to run over this period, however services may be busier than normal. Some bus services may be cancelled to be used on other key routes.

From Thursday 25 January to Sunday 28 January:

T6 Carlingford Line services are cancelled on Friday 26 January with buses replacing trains between Clyde and Carlingford.
Some additional services will be available to supplement Australia Day services and major events at Sydney Olympic Park after 4pm.

Employers should talk with their staff about alternative working arrangements such as: the potential for working flexibly, taking annual leave, working from home or other locations where possible, or changing start and finish times.

If you must travel, expect delays, travel outside the peak and allow plenty of extra travel time.

Roads are expected to be busier than normal and congestion will occur throughout the day, so you should avoid driving or allow plenty of extra travel time.

This page will be updated when details are finalised to allow you to plan ahead and make alternative arrangements.

A deal has been reached, with members voting on it tomorrow. Too late to reinstate cancelled services on Thursday.

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sydney-rail-s ... 0n1sz.html
The deal includes a 2.75 per cent annual pay rise, a one-off $1000 payment to each employee and the extension of free travel using Opal cards to private and on-demand buses and the new metro train lines when they are opened in the coming years.

However, it is likely to come too late to avoid major disruptions to train services on Thursday as the government has already had to push the button on contingency plans.

Managed to get 0.25% extra payrise and some other benefits. But reading on where on earth are they going to get appropriate employee-related savings from ? It appears also the government/Sydney Trains didn't gain any real productivity improvements. Though it may allow other public sector unions to try to attempt go above 2.5% pay cap.

Shame the government didn't push for a start for DOO with a promise of further wage rises for the productivity improvement and increased responsibility. It would obviously take some time to implement because of the need to upgrade the rolling stock for DOO operation including station upgrading, but it has to start somewhere. Job losses for guards shouldn't be such a big issue as it will be over an extended time frame, with the added opportunity of being retrained as drivers.

Will the Hornsby Yard upgrade help in alleviating these delays, otherwise what's the point of it?

The point of it is to enable 16TPH on the North Shore Line at Hornsby in preparation for the 2019, post-Metro timetable.

It creates a a terminating road north of the station so that Hornsby terminators don't occupy a platform for extended periods.

DOO would require some gutsy management & government in this political sensitive era I doubt I would see it happen. The Waratah trains have external CCTV DOO wouldn’t be a problem in that aspect. The same union the RTBU wouldn’t allow back door boarding on buses so DOO is a dream. At least the RTBU isn’t the thuggery of the CFMEU.

At the moment it can't even start to be introduced without a complete reconfiguration/rebuild of the fleet and stations on account of accessibility requirements.

Interesting, with the overtime ban for tomorrow, it looks like I might be a winner... the trains to Campbelltown is scheduled to take 59 minutes, with 1 minute wait for the connecting one at Glenfield instead of 15 minutes...

Had a look at tripview so Jan 26 Airport Line is running 6tph. 2tph all stops to Revesby, 2tph to Macarthur limited stops & 2tph express to Kingsgrove. As also a consequence T2 is running 2tph to Leppington.

Looks like the strike is going ahead

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-01-24/s ... te/9348044
Sydney Train workers have voted to go ahead with a 24-hour strike on Monday, in a move expected to have chaotic consequences for commuters in Australia's largest city.

Key points:

Sydney's train timetable will be significantly reduced from tomorrow
The main disruptions will be on Monday, when workers go on a 24-hour strike
Sydney Trains has been plagued by disruptions in the past two months
Less than 6 per cent of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union's (RTBU) 6,000 members in New South Wales voted in favour of calling off industrial action in a text message poll.

Timetables will be significantly reduced from tomorrow, and over the long weekend.

The NSW Government has launched fresh legal action to try to stop the strike, with a Fair Work hearing set down for 3:00pm.

The union had been locked in negotiations with Sydney Trains and the NSW Government for about a fortnight.

They rejected a pay offer last week, but negotiations yesterday produced a new offer, which members subsequently voted on.

Train workers 'totally frustrated'

Alex Claassens, NSW secretary of the RTBU, said members were frustrated.

"Unfortunately my members have overwhelmingly decided that the offer on the table is nowhere near good enough and our industrial action will continue so the overtime ban will commence tomorrow and we will also take place on Monday as we talked about," he said.

"We have been saying all along that we needed the Minister to come to the table and put some real positions down so our members are totally frustrated with everything that's been going on.
"I think we all know that the straw that broke the camel's back was the introduction of the [new] timetable."

Discussions are being played out amid several meltdowns on Sydney's railways since a new timetable was unveiled in November.

Time to halve rego, remove tolls

Welcome to future Sydney; where your car registration is cheap, toll roads were abolished and the trains are on time.
On December 10, evening peak hour turned into chaos after a fatality on the tracks, with travellers at the busy CBD stations of Town Hall and Wynyard advised to walk to Central, Museum, St James or Martin Place.

The dysfunction climaxed on January 9 when the Harbour City's train network was plagued by widespread delays and cancellations, overcrowded stations and carriages.

Commuters complained about journeys being hours longer than usual and platforms being closed at some stations, while NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley described the conditions as "third world".

An unexpected spike in sick leave, coupled with the new timetable and stormy conditions have been blamed for the situation, which were described by NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance as "an act of God".
Not sure if the public will be siding with the train drivers any more...

Just checking timetables for services to Penrith tomorrow. Tripfinder comes up with this informative warning:
Penrith station access closed due to station upgrade works, please use the shuttle bus if you need to move to the other side of the station
How do you get on/off a train if access is closed?

Just read in SMH according to a leading law firm Harmers Workplace Lawyers that the industrial action may not be protected.

Maybe the government & management should toughen up should be like Patrick corporation or Qantas.

School services will not run on Monday 29 January. Parents and students will need to make alternative arrangements to get to school.

While Monday 29 January is a normal business day, to plan ahead for Monday's rail closure, employers should talk with their staff about alternative working arrangements such as the potential for working flexibly, taking annual leave, working from home or other locations where possible, or changing start and finish times.

From Thursday 25 January to Sunday 28 January:

Trains will run to a significantly reduced timetable.

Bus

On Monday 29 January, some limited bus services will run along key corridors as a priority for essential frontline staff.

Bus services will not match the capacity of the train network, so please consider whether you need to travel, especially on Monday 29 January.

If you must travel, avoid travelling between 7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm.
Driving

Roads will be busier than normal, so consider working from home, avoid driving or travel outside the peak, consider car pooling and allow plenty of extra travel time.

For the latest traffic information, check Live Traffic NSW website.

For people who have to drive, we are in the process of identifying additional parking at key locations where people can park and either walk or catch a bus to work. However, parking will be limited so drivers should arrive early. A list of Park and Walk options will be provided when details are finalised.
Airport services

From Thursday 25 January, trains to the airport will run to a reduced frequency so services will be busy.

You should allow more travel time than normal to get to the airport as roads and public transport will be busy.

On Monday 29 January, there will be no train services and train stations will be closed.

Shuttle buses will be available, however it takes 15 buses to replace one full train and additional bus services will not match the capacity of the train network.

Central to Domestic Airport and return

Botany Rd opp Green Square
Sydney Airport, Domestic T3, Shiers Av

Central to International Airport and return

Central Stn, Eddy Av, Stand A

Express services will also run between Wolli Creek - Domestic Airport - International Airport and return.

Route 400 bus service (Burwood to Bondi Junction and return) is another option for anyone travelling to the airport.

Taxis may be busier than normal at both International and Domestic terminals.
Australia Day

If you are heading into the Sydney CBD to celebrate Australia Day, allow plenty of extra travel time.

Planned industrial action will mean reduced train services on Friday 26 January. Limited services will run before 4pm so check the indicator boards and listen to announcements at stations.

Additional trains will be running after 4pm to get people to and from events in the city.

Circular Quay is expected to be very busy especially after the 9pm fireworks, so please be patient.

Standby buses will also be available to run from the CBD to key destinations across the network to supplement train services where required.

Check the Australia Day events page and plan ahead.
Events at Olympic Park

Planned industrial action will mean reduced train services on Saturday 27 January.

Limited services will run before 4pm so check the indicator boards and listen to announcements at stations.

With large crowds expected to attend events in the precinct, trains will run to increased frequency in and out of Olympic Park on Saturday evening.

If you drive to Olympic Park, you will need to pre-book parking. You should also arrive early and carpool where possible. Parking will be extremely limited.

If you are attending the Foo Fighters concert, check the Foo Fighters events page and plan ahead.
Accessibility needs

While the majority of local bus services are usually accessible, some supplementary buses running from Thursday 25 January may not be accessible, in particular coach services from Wollongong, Central Coast and Katoomba.

If your bus is accessible, you will be able to board as normal and travel in the designated area designed to fit mobility aids such as wheelchairs and ride-on scooters.

You could also consider a wheelchair accessible taxi, hire car or rideshare service.
School bus services

School bus services in Sydney will not run on Monday 29 January.

Due to planned industrial action, no trains will run across NSW and all train stations will be closed on Monday 29 January.

Regular bus services may be busier than normal and some may be cancelled, due to industrial action impacting train services.

Parents and students will need to make alternative arrangements to get to school.

That comment about extra car parking reminds me of the days when cars were allowed to park on the platforms at Sydney Terminal during numerous past strikes.

I imagine it means access is only available to/from one side of the station. If you need to cross the line the shuttle bus takes you across.

Particularly when only 6% of them bothered to respond Yes/No to the vote (by SMS so not exactly requiring an effort)

Of those responding it was overwhelmingly Yes to accept the offer
(But a no response was taken as a No)

EDIT - It actually appears the Instructions were to NOT RESPOND if you wanted to vote NO.

In any event thats a massive loss of face from the Union negotiators

How amusing!!

In that case I shall just get a heap of Popcorn ready for Monday's day off + the continuing Soap Opera between the RBTU and Constance (I find that pitifully amusing)

In serious talk though, Constance should have lost his job by now. Gladys passive-aggressively defending her minister for all his faults is just more cowardice.

During some of the multiple and extended strikes during the 80s north shore commuters were encouraged to drive to Milsons point, park on the grass of Bradfield park, then walk over the bridge.

Some road traffic analysis during train strikes and a summary of some of those strikes, can be found at http://atrf.info/papers/1985/1985_Clunas_Black.pdf

The notice is badly worded.

The north side lift and surrounds are being rebuilt. That's the side of the station the commuter car park is on. Access on the south side to the main CBD is still open.
