Private Observations - November 2017

Postby Richard290 » Sat Nov 04, 2017 12:57 pm

Yesterday around 3pm at Macquarie University I spotted Transdev NSW’s 8303 with a desto flashing “CALL 000” “IN EMERGENCY”.
Not sure what was going on there…

You have to be careful. Some of the desto codes are very similar and it is easy for the wrong desto to be shown. I hope there was no problem for the driver however.

I have been intercepted by the Police in the past because of having that desto displayed.

Some STA buses have/had an emergency button on the floor which opened up the radio and bought up that code for the desto. It may have been tripped accidentally if similarly fitted on that particular bus.

Is that like the emergency distress code that aircrafts have to show they are hijacked or something?

It allows the driver alert the control room, without being observed obviously doing so.

The radio channel opens up so the base operator can hear what is happening, if the driver is not able to speak normally for some reason.

The driver should be checking his controller screen when he enters a new code, to ensure the correct message is being displayed.

I was in Novacastrian country yesterday looking for parking along the waterfront when a CB60 flashed their headlights in my rear view mirror. You would think drivers are used to coming across a snail along there looking for a spot.
I flashed my reverse lights while moving forward and the bus backed off lol. I wouldn't recommend putting your gearbox in jeopardy to make a point. At least it worked that time.

All correct there Peter.
There are actually 2 companies there.
Velbus Pty.Ltd. purchased the Stewarts business and Velbus Services Pty.Ltd. purchased the Flints business.Steve Stewart retained TV 5543 for resale.
Hope this helps.

I was just looking at the 611 services going to Blacktown and noticed they are all running 20 minutes early on the real time apps.

Is there seriously so much slack in the timetable that services are able to operate so far out of normal schedule?

In a rare sighting for Hunter Valley buses Thornton. A Csepel CB60 was spotted this afternoon operating the 192 to south Maitland. Sadly didn't get chance to get photos of it. They've had these for two or three years now and this is the first I've seen any CB60 from the Thornton Depot operate public routes. They've kept them to school bus routes for some reason. The 263(x) School bus is known to be one of those to have the low floor Csepel CB60 along with 2532 school bus which I observed this afternoon operating on the same bus.

Thornton only has Csepel CB60's and less than 5 of them If I recall correctly. They don't have any other CB60's or EVO2's down here at the Thornton depot.

Moore's Tours TV 9481 is another double decker in monster bus livery. A rego check shows last 4 digits of the VIN as 5688 which I have not been able to trace.
TV 6143 which so far has not been reported as being in Monster Bus livery has a VIN ending 6688 is as close as I have got.
Both are 1988 units.

One Saturday morning recently I was on a 611 that left Oakes Rd with 35 pax standing, apparently due to Saturday university exams.

Hmmm..... the 30 minute frequency is obviously not enough at that time of year.
