Maitland tram remnants

Postby Rclasstramcar » Wed Oct 18, 2017 7:47 pm

Hi everyone,
I know this maybe a very long shot, but are there any remnants of the former Maitland steam tram network?

Others would have to answer this but I found this charming photo of a tram running along Day St, East Maitland, not far from the eastern terminus:

I would suggest you get hold of a map of the system, and spend a few hours up there following the tracks around. A lot of remnants are not obvious till you view them in context.

Thanks Boronia. I did not even think about asking for a map. My not yet fully worked out plan is travel up there to have a look around and see what I can find.

SPER published a book "Maitland Tramway Ventures" back in 1965.

The authors mentioned then that the only visible remnants were a couple of shaved corners, and a couple of tramway cottages near the former depot in Victoria St. The location of the former terminus in the station forecourt is possibly discernible

Those are the ones I am interested in, especially the tramway cottages. I have gotten in touch with the Maitland Historical Society.
