Private Observations - September 2017

Don't believe there's a thread in existence so far for Private observations September 2017 so I may as well start this months one up myself.

Hate to start the Topic on a bad note but a bus crash has happened in the last hour or so on Epping Road North Ryde. It's managed to go through 3 houses and the front of the bus is totalled. No way it'll be repaired and once investigations are done it'll likely be 100% scrapped or used for parts then scrapped. I can't seem to tell who this bus belongs too from the photos and don't have a Fleet # on hand as it isn't visible in the photos.

From what I can take a guess at. I think the bus is a Volvo or Mercedes.

I'd say it is North Sydney Bus Charters given that their depot is right next door - can't get the rego but it is an ex STA O305 Mk IV.

Dashcam footage from https://www.facebook.com/DashCamOwnersA ... 3694833265 appears to show that the bus driver floors it out of the depot, overcorrects and flies straight into the two houses.

More photos from the NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrafficService ... 1490708825

The initial Facebook post from the cops said that a roadside breath test of the driver returned .200, but they have since edited the post and stated that they've been taken to hospital for testing.

I think it a ex STA Mk IV, so with some private operator.

A Police FB report claimed the driver blew 0.200 in RBT, he has been taken to hospital for blood tests.

Suspect the operator can expect a compliance audit next week.

Three hurt as Sydney bus ploughs into two homes
AVA BENNY-MORRISON, The Daily Telegraph
September 16, 2017 1:10pm

A BUS driver was allegedly four times over the legal blood-alcohol legal limit when his vehicle ploughed through two homes in Sydney’s northwest today.

Three residents narrowly escaped serious injury when the bus veered off Epping Rd at North Ryde and into their homes at about midday.
A bus crashed into two houses in North Ryde.
Three people were hurt in the accident.

Police said the bus mounted the kerb, went through a front yard and then slammed straight into the suburban weatherboard houses.

Both homes were severely damaged, with debris sprawled across their front yards. The vehicle ended up lodged in the front of the second house with its front caved in, covered with tiles and timber.

No passengers were on the North Sydney Bus Charter vehicle at the time and the driver was uninjured.

When he climbed from the wreckage, he was breathalysed and allegedly blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.2. He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for further blood and urine tests.

Two women inside one of the homes suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

A man who was inside the other property was also hurt injured but didn’t require treatment, police said.

Staff at North Sydney Bus Charter refused to comment when contacted and messages left for the manager went unanswered.

I think the owner should be concerned, because he most likely won't have any insurance to cover this so faces an expensive
Repair bill.

And the RMS will be conducting a vehicle inspection at their depot on all buses too.

Just spotted a Newcastle Transport bus going past Maitland Tafe on Charter 400. I believe it was fleet # 3409 which is a BCI Citirider 12

Fancy seeing it all the way out here. It was heading back towards Newcastle by the looks of things.

I am mentally and physically exhausted, but feel like dropping this here anyway. And hopefully im on the right thread, rail replacement buses are run by private operators mostly anyway, so here we go

I'm on a T1 North Shore replacement bus tonight, that one that goes Central, Town hall, Wynyard, express to chatswood via M1, then all to Hornsby. Normally, I love that bus. It's actually a bit faster than the train and better yet, its essentially free (but im not here to talk about that).

Well, i just had a lovely night-time adventure through Sydney! Not that I wanted one when I've worked longer than usual and finished quite late too but anyways

So the bus took an epic tourist-esque sight seeing trip through the CBD. Was Pitt St, then Market St, then QVB, then oh fantastic, Clarence Street is closed for road works..so we went down Kent St, then up Kings St all the way to Macquarie St, left turn and from there onto the Cahill Expressway. The amount of traffic lights really just meant wow, on the train id've been home already but it didnt even end there. On the highway, the driver exited on the wrong turnoff so passengers began guiding him (it always looks a bit awkward). Then he somehow still got the wrong turnoff (or a passenger probably gave him the wrong one), and we went through Lane Cove, eventually came up to Mowbray Road, went up there (before someone had to exit the bus halfway through to vomit), and then Pacific Highway, then standard route up to Chatswood.

Upon exiting the bus at Chatswood, some people were rolling their eyes at the driver in contempt and a few muttered rude things and to be honest, I do feel a little bit sorry for him. Is there like, no option for a GPS-guidance in the Wayfarer consoles lest this happen in the future? Or are bus drivers just expected to know their routes 100% inside out (and this one isnt even a permanent one)

I'm pretty sure that I've seen a GPS map on the THOREB screen of an M41, don't know whether any private operators have it.

Using the official NSW Waratah logo mightn't go down too well, unless it has some official connection?

TV 8257 Deanes Transport Services, Cooma Iveco Eurorider/MarcoPolo, at the back of the Australian War Memorial, Canberra 20/9/2017.
It is the one in the fleet list as TV 8527 which has since been corrected.

What concerns me as much as the demolishion job on the homes, is the manner in which the driver just charged out onto Epping Rd on front of traffic. It is sheer chance that no cars were taken out as it barged out onto the road. I always wondered what such a high powered mass of 11 tonnes could do. You can do some immense damage with a humble bus.

Curious but is it common for busses from other Depots to operate another Depots route?

Yesterday I spotted a Hunter Valley bus (7599 MO mind you) at Greenhills that had come all the way from Singleton (It's a Singleton CDC Bus, not Thornton). I'd assume it had just finished the 180 run from Singleton as the last stop is outside the NRMA or NAB Bank (Actually called the Hit & Dip bus stop). The Driver changed the destination board and up came "187, Woodlands Estate Via Metford".

I'm curious that's all? Usually at this time of the afternoon when ever I've been at Greenhills it's always a Thornton bus that operates it. I've Never seen a Singleton bus operate 187 before or a Thornton Depot route. Maybe this is more common then what I think it is?
