The old exit and platform stairs will probably be removed this weekend during trackwork closures.

Penrith is starting to look really good. I also saw Pendle Hills upgrade is now more or less finished, I think the new, spacious brighter concourse looks great. Much nicer than that dodgy antiquated old footbridge

Central Coast services towards Central are showing up as "City Circle via Central" on platform indicators today, but the station list ends with Central as normal.

Very unusual train with blue passenger carriages apparently hauled by a diesel locomotive observed heading north at Cheltenham, Sunday morning about 8:45.

I can't wait for the demise of the Northern Line. The 16 minute interchange at Epping is very annoying. I guess not many people actually travel from Rhodes to Pennant Hills, but some people must be doing it, and I don't know how they put up with it.

Croydon station "soft opening" should be this month according to the staff there. It has only been over a year of construction. TfNSW and their contractors are slow but not that slow.

Officially:

Project Status

Over the coming months, new facilities will progressively be opened to the community as part of the Croydon Station Upgrade. The first stage of the opening will include the new station concourse, lifts and stairs to Platforms 3/4 and 5, the station office and a family accessible toilet. The new station entrances at The Strand and at Hennessy Street will also become operational.

Croydon has been left in such a hideous eyesore for over a year now (when you honestly thought nothing could get uglier than town hall has for the past two years), I do seriously wonder how / why are they taking their time. Pendle Hill, eg. Bam. Done in a couple months, new concourse and lighting.

Flemington also got a relatively huge upgrade with a new concourse, stairs, lighting and roofs, while at the same time removing that old, long footbridge and station building. They got the job done (in terms of construction) in the space of months. Croydon meanwhile looks like they begun work, then realised maybe a bad idea, and abandoned it halfway through...lazy. It's showing here, sorry guys. The temporary entrance + that staircase is hideous and looks annoying to use to get to the platform for City trains.

On the other hand, I'm praising how Town Hall is starting to look. For example, those little bright lights on the stairs going down to Platforms 1,2 and 3 really is a nice touch and it feels like there's a bit of life and vibrancy coming back to the station after sucking out all the green and yellow. And the wooden ceiling too on the concourse outside the gates. Nice stuff.

Part way through construction of Croydon they decided not to install a lift on platforms ½, so that may have delayed the rest for a while as they adjusted the designs accordingly.

Irony: submission CR46 (on p.22) has a whinge about the lack of encouragement to use public transport around Croydon.

Wasn't it these dimwitted Croydon people who refused Route 418 to pass through Croydon when consultation for Better Buses Inner West was done in around 2010?

Running either express or all stations Central to North Sydney. From memory 4 car services were express, 8 car all stations.

Ugh. Better off with just "Central (i)".....

We tried Sydney Central during the Olympics and it basically worked only during those three weeks.

Afterwards, everyone just reverted back to Sydney Terminal :P

I like the look of that, makes it seem more like an actual long-distance regional train. That and the time of departure.

Leave the more casual "Central" for suburban trains terminating there.

What I'd also like them to change is the "service" at the top, its vague - revert back to "Next Service" as it was before HOP

That might cause issues in the future. Platform 2 is not a totally dead platform.

Better off permanently closing off Platform 1/2.

Ahhh ok. Good good to see a slight regular return of T sets to that line after 2013. Try to enjoy it before November ^
