Re: NSW On Demand Buses
I\m not sure if it is an "on demand" service, there is a new service running once a week from Premer and other former villages to Tamworth and back, once a week.
Re: NSW On Demand Buses
those are "community transport", not your usual route service or the new "on demand" concept
Re: NSW On Demand Buses
Four more on-demand services coming this month and next month

Re: NSW On Demand Buses
Thanks for the info Xplorer.
The two most interesting ones are Tullamore to Dubbo and Portland to Lithgow.
The Tullamore-Dubbo service just does not provide enough time in Dubbo for appointments, shopping and the like.4 hours is pretty close to being ideal. You would also need to structure the service so pax can move between various venues.E.G.Drop in Dubbo CBD.Move a pax to an appointment at a doctors surgery, move pax to Orana Mall. That lack of time in Dubbo will certaintly impact on that services potential patronage.
The Portland-Lithgow service is interesting as there is a pre-existing reasonably frequent route service in place, although not door to door. The route service does provide a reasonably good coverage of Portland and Wallerawang and does attract reasonable patronage.I am not sure that a weekly on demand service will attract enough patronage, given the pre-existing route service to continue beyond the first trial period.
Are you going to chase these services ??

Re: NSW On Demand Buses
I haven't looked too much into the Dubbo one yet, but i definitely agree with you in relation to the Portland one, already a decent service along the combined 600/636 corridor
i'll probably chase the portland one, given it's probably far easier to access than the other ones
one thing that caught my attention is the Collarenebri to Narrabri service. there's already a trainlink coach between Burren Junction and Narrabri, which only operates twice a week (twice on Friday). It's probably more sensible to extend this out to Collarenebri, as Burren Junction is sort of halfway there already.

Re: NSW On Demand Buses
The Collarenebri one? That's a bus service
You're probably thinking of the planned Moree - Collarenebri - Walgett trainlink coach, or the Dubbo - Lightning Ridge coach, which is the only one stopping in Walgett
I was talking the weekly trainlink coach connecting to the train at Narrabri, with stops only at Wee Waa and Burren Jn

Re: NSW On Demand Buses
Thanks for the info here Xplorer.
That is certaintly an interesting service.I am not certain it does enough to attract the pax necessary to survive.
Also interesting is the use of the app as the main booking tool, although if you do read on you can book on a 1300 phone number.
On our service the vast majority of our pax book via the phone. They just want to talk to somebody and have the security of talking with a human in making their very welcome booking.
What do you think on this one Xplorer ??

Unless it's a human with an unintelligible accent in a foreign country, in which case online is more comfortable!burrumbus wrote:Thanks for the info here Xplorer.

1. truncate 682/685 to Goonellabah shops only, with the loopy bits east and south of it now for the on demand bus only
2. straighten most 661s through Goonellabah/Alstonville to main roads only
On Demands will connect with 661s in both directions at major stops

Heading is a bit misleading "On Demand public transport is being trialled on the Northern beaches " when in fact it is the Northern Rivers around Woolgoolga.Xplorer wrote:this one isn't advertised by TfNSW at alliamthouth wrote:https://woopiconnect.com.au commenced yesterday

Re: NSW On Demand Buses
The Bridj app has recently been updated.
According to the announcement:
"The latest release offers an improved service area map, giving you a clearer pick up and drop off location - making it easier to plan and catch your trip.
The app is also now enabled with the latest cloud messaging services, so you can rely on real time updates wherever you are".

Re: NSW On Demand Buses
I tried out 'Bridj" in Rose Bay. What's a bit misleading about the "on demand" aspect is that in fact the buses only run on a timetable that connects to the Rose Bay ferry. While that's good, and useful, they have a requirement that you must book it at least 10 (?) minutes in advance of the pickup. What this meant is that I arrived at Rose Bay on the ferry, tried to get on the bus that was waiting there, and then was told by the driver I had to book. I did so, but was allocated to the next bus 30 minutes later meeting the next ferry, despite the fact that an empty bus was sitting in front of me. So it's "on demand" but only under their rules where demand matches the ferry, and inflexibility was the name of the game. Also, I tried to get it to drop me off at a bus stop along Old South Head Road, so that I could catch a regular route service back to Bondi Junction. The app made the driver turn into a side street and pull off at least 150-200m from where I really wanted to be. Not a show stopper, but odd when the location I selected was already a bus stop, along a main road that the Bridj bus was already travelling on.
Also, the bus is not allowed to take you to Bondi Junction. I guess this because it already has a good train service, and this is meant to be a ferry feeder and not 'compete' with existing buses that feed into Bondi Junction or Edgecliff.

Re: NSW On Demand Buses
All of that ridiculous and poor service. If that continues the service will not continue.Flexibilty is the name of the game and trying to match the pax need to bus availability.Walk ups should be allowed off the ferry.
