Speaking of Parramatta during trackwork, I remember years ago during trackwork they sometimes would have an arrangement where Down trains departed for the west from Platform 3 and Up trains departed for the city from Platform 1. Platform 2 and 4 closed IIRC.

Terminate Platform 4, then either shunt west or head right back to Harris Park via 722 crossovers.

Your book is out of date. Like I said, and seem to have been ignored, both Platform 3 and 4 are Bo directional, and you can use both to terminate and for thru movements, and P4 will be the regular terminating platform. So T2 services use P4 and T5 services use P3 in both directions

Why are "they" digging up the garden outside the western entrance to Central Station?

They're re-turfing, there is this tiny, faded sign at the bottom end of the path

There is a 10km/h TSR at Sydenham on the Up Bankstown from the points on the country end to the end of the platform on the city end. First time I've seen a TSR that low.
I think the trackwork tonight between Campsie and Sydenham is to fix whatever the TSR is protecting.

Going through Point Clare station today i notice the old wooden roller-board indicators have disappeared. Not sure why as new indicator screens have not been installed on the platforms.

Not too many of the old indicators still in use these days.

4 car V sets are stopping at Town Hall, Wynyard and Milsons Point this weekend, but only in the northbound direction.

Due to trackwork, Blue Mountains trains are diverting to the suburban platforms at Central and continue through to North Sydney after platform 16, stopping at all stations in that direction only. They don't stop on the return to Central platform 18.

What about the 8-car trains? Or are they all being reduced back to four cars just because of this? (And why can't they use 6 cars any more?)

Can't run 6 car sets because Gladys said so. 8 car sets don't fit anywhere on the north shore to turn them around.

A recent STN, issued to advertise some daytime Weekend West Intercity services to be built-up from 4 to 8 car consist, specified dates commencing July 1 and extending through to November 25.

However, it would appear 4car consists take precedence when Western Line Intercity services run to/from North Sydney at Weekends.

Intercity V sets were made up into 4car blocks during 2011, with services running as 4 or 8 car consists.
6car sets were dispensed with across all Intercity and Suburban type rolling stock with the introduction of OSCARs and Waratah A sets.

Not to mention 10 car sets they once ran. This state seems obsessed with making everything run to a basic six year old's level of sophistication for the network.

Yes, I was at Katoomba a few weeks and noticed there was a sign advertising what trains had 8 car sets now. The staff were announcing over the PA when an 8-car set was approaching to encourage people to spread out along the platform. It was interesting to see how that separated the English speakers from the foreign tourists. Still, when I eventually returned to Sydney I went to the *very* far end of the platform and nearly had the last car to myself (the first few cars appeared to be packed as usual)

On weekdays, the 4 car Sydney bound services usually have the rear car almost empty when I get on at Penrith

The indicators on the outside platforms at Denistone often make for a long wait.

It would be good to see the XPT get this treatment as a throwback to their original SRA livery from 1982.
