I wonder if they solved the screen timeout glitch after an announcement has been made.

Re: $1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed
That was solved a long time ago - simply reverts back to the list of next stops / current station
Re: $1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed
There is a new thing where it will say (with a DVA) "This train will depart in 2 minutes" but the problem is that it doesn't update until after the train departs so it still says "This train will depart in 2 minutes" as the train is leaving the station.

Re: $1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed
It's unbelievable that between 2002 and 2018, 16 whole years, there's been no innovation of presenting stop information other than on two lines of text. Look at how simple, yet dynamic this Hong Kong MTR example (2016-) is:
Even North Korea does it better than Australia...

Indeed, it’s not straightforward comparing metro lines to a commuter railway. Having said that the displays could be sexier.

Communist countries often have fantastic public transport, but nearly everyone does it better than backwater country.boxythingy wrote:

Our apathetic culture that so readily accepts and even embraces mediocrity like a religion fosters second best practice. Our phobia of 'rocking the boat' doesn't help either. Mediocrity is worse than being bad, because being bad is usually dealt with quicker.

Re: $1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed
I'm guessing more testing.
864 starts at Granville, heads to Campbelltown, then Sydenham, down to Macarthur, over to Turella, back to Leppington, then to Auburn via Regent's Park.
865 starts at Granville, heads to Blacktown, then Leppington via Regent's Park, Revesby and back to Leppington, Turella, Campbelltown, Sydenham, Campbelltown, then back to Auburn via Regents Park.

When I went past AMF this morning I noticed that one of the B sets has an advert on it. The advert reads the Waratah series 2 trains have arrived. This is 1 out of 24 new Waratahs. Apologies I can't remeber the set number

Re: $1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed
They are actually banned between Erskineville and Bondi Junction
@ Due to electrical and signalling restrictions, Waratah (A sets) and SGT (B sets) are not
permitted on the Eastern Suburbs Rail Line between Erskineville Junction and Bondi
Junction.

It is not restricted to T sets - only A & B sets can not operate there because of different power requirements which is still being worked on to resolve that.Bus883&1022 wrote:Why are there signalling restrictions between Erskineville and Bondi that only allows the T's

You mean they are power guzzlers in this age of aspiring to be more efficient on energy.Fleet Lists wrote:It is not restricted to T sets - only A & B sets can not operate there because of different power requirements which is still being worked on to resolve that.Bus883&1022 wrote:Why are there signalling restrictions between Erskineville and Bondi that only allows the T's
They have had nearly a decade to have it ready to accept such a class of train.

Re: $1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed
Had to add substations on the North Shore line for the Waratahs.
Nothing wrong with dedicated fleet per line.
Gets you to common door position which starts to allow PSDs in the city circle.

There is when the train is 20 years older and other lines get the benefits of a much newer train.moa999 wrote:

Nothing wrong with consistent car lengths and a fair go for all to use a taxpayer funded newer train model with added features and amenity.

Hence the Tangara Technology Upgrade which is meant to add these modern passenger communication features.... if it ever gets passed the point of the design stage that is.Swift wrote: There is when the train is 20 years older and other lines get the benefits of a much newer train.
