And when the NIF roll out, displacing Oscars from intercity service, the Oscars will predominantly become growth trains for Sector 1 (T4).

In the days when they were ubiquitous, I would never imagine the situation today where a ride is a rare treat for me.
It was a novelty seeing them appear on the Carlingford Line after the red sets were retired.

When the As were first trialled it was found that some of the on-board electronics interfered with signalling systems, which required modifications. Not allowing As and Bs in reduces the need to spend money in this area, although it might have to be done sometime in the future?

Also, many platforms had to be "lengthened" to cover access to the rear guard's compartment. Perhaps this is not feasible on the ES tunnel stations? Again something that can be deferred until later.

Wouldn't it be better to have Oscar's on Sector 2 to maintain a single fleet on T4? Their luggage racks and higher speed rating could be perfect for T8 in particular.

Town Hall has the shortest platforms on the ESR. The others comfortably fit 8 cars with the drivers' doors on platform.

Correct, but more of them will once the NIF is rolled out and Oscar refurbishment happens with their toilets/luggage racks removed.

They will revert to suburban only use, much like the G sets of the day.

Wouldn't have a clue yet. But given there will be 10 car sets, the 10 car sets are probably equivalent of the 8 car V set, and the 4/8 car sets will probably be more of an Oscar.

I guess for the South Coast it'll be 4/8 car sets? Which gives the operational flexibility of either ST or MP/BJI.

B4 was partly out in the open at AMF this morning, but may have been delivered last week.

B3 is not "decorated", so only B1 and/or B2 have been done.

From what I could see from going past AMF this afternoon, only B2 has been decorated. B1 and B3 were "clean".

B1 still has test train signs on the doors, so perhaps only B2 in service. B2 is only

B3 now has the 1 out of 24 new Waratah decals but it still doesn't have the motif. And shouldn't it be 3 out of 24 new Waratahs not 1 out of 24?

No it should be 1 out of 24 - B2 is one set and B3 is another set - so each individually is 1 out of 24. Only B2 and B3 have been approved for service so far.

Ridden the new train.

It was exciting for the first five minutes while I focus on these fancy interior stickers that have been applied at the last minute, but otherwise, the train is like 97% the exact same as the older Waratah. Motor, the information displayed by the panels in the upper and lower deck, seating, windows, stingy aircon, irritating announcements etc are all the exact same. From a hobbyists perspective, there is really nothing to get excited about here because....it’s the same train which is slightly reducing the variety of the Sydney Trains network.

Has as much charm as a dish washer (sorry), will actually miss the S sets, but recognise the lack of aircon is an issue

Back in the 1970s, I rode every day from North Sydney to Campbelltown in S sets that had been sitting in Lavender Bay CS for about 6 hours in the summer sun with all the windows closed. Lack of a/c wasn't an issue then. We just sweated and beared it.

^ They had the Beclawat windows then, the equivalent of the swinging front quarter glass in older cars, instead of those hopper windows, which are only good for giving the ceiling a breeze.
What about a/c failures or poorly set thermostats. They seem to be getting mean with the temperature setting these days and I don't see that getting any better soon with the cost of power and more juice consuming trains with each generation.

Even with the old Beclawats, air flow into the carriages was poor. I remember having to fold up a newspaper and hang it out to make a scoop.
