"Easier"?? All they have done is moved the traffic jam somewhere else.......oh, hang on...RMS haven't done their part of the works yet.moa999 wrote:How / where??lunchbox wrote: You can check those safety issues for yourself.
Sydney Airport has spent millions to make it easier for motorists.
SACL only spends money to help itself. The new roads enable more parking (more money) and a hotel (more rent)

They've started to do so, and in the one-third finished state, royally screwed O'Riordan St to International traffic. It'd be nice if they pulled their finger out of their spotty behind and widened the Qantas Dr - Joyce Dr connection. Only then is it feasible for RMS to do the one-way pairing in O'Riordan St and Robey St.lunchbox wrote:Sydney Airport has spent millions to make it easier for motorists.

Re: Museum Station - Downgrading of bus-rail interchange
A complaint about the some-time closure of the northern entrances/exits at Museum Station was lodged with TfNSW, where, as you know, the "Customer is at the centre of everything we do".
A "Sir Humphrey Appelby" type has responded, quote, "Due to minimal patronage, the (Bathurst Street) exit is kept closed on the weekend. The exit signs (on the platforms) to Bathurst Street are left illuminated in accordance with Australian Standards. These exit signs cannot be turned off".
And "Sydney Trains will review the need for additional signage at Museum Station to ensure customers are aware when the exit is closed".
Cynics, go for it......

Re: Museum Station - Downgrading of bus-rail interchange
Great standard. Actually reduces the safety if there were indeed a fire. People could rush to the closed exit.
Re: Museum Station - Downgrading of bus-rail interchange
I found the Museum Station Bathurst St enterance was open last weekend. Maybe due to City Circle Trackwork. Maybe they could be changed to light different colours if they weren't open like it would light red if the exit is closed.
Re: Museum Station - Downgrading of bus-rail interchange
Main entrance was closed entire weekend as part of the lift construction with Bathurst used as an alternate. Was reasonably well advertised before hand.

Very flawed standards to follow. They should look elsewhere.lunchbox wrote:.

Maybe it is security cost related, funneling customers into less corridors can result in a reduction of staff on weekends required to monitor cctv. I like the fact that the exit signs must stay illuminated at all times even when the actual exit is not being used. TfNSW should trying to encourage patronage on public transport, especially on weekends.

What! Even when it's locked?Stu wrote:I like the fact that the exit signs must stay illuminated at all times even when the actual exit is not being used
Only makes sense when you can actually get out of the exit. Is that the case here?

I'll reiterate my point above. Australian standards need a rejig if it forbids the flexibility to simply switch off an exit sign when the exit ts blocked. We are so rule driven, yet massively inconsistent in implementing them.

131500 advises that the platform signage at the Bathurst Street end of Museum Station will be modified, to include the word "Emergency" among other things, and that the work will be completed "within a matter of weeks".

If it is a designated emergency exit, it must be capable of being opened from the inside at all times. and the "emergency exit" signs and guidance lighting must be capable of remaining on if the mains power is unavailable.Swift wrote:I'll reiterate my point above. Went through Museum today for the first time in a long time. Have they replaced the lights in the station? Because it felt a whole lot brighter.

Re: Museum Station - Downgrading of bus-rail interchange
A win!
The back-lit "Exit to Bathurst Street" signs are now switched OFF when the northern exits are closed on weekends. (Refer my posts of 28.3.16 and 19.7.16.)
It's only taken 18 months!

Re: Museum Station - Downgrading of bus-rail interchange
So how were they able to finally implement this common sense move, if the rules were so inflexible before?

Re: Museum Station - Downgrading of bus-rail interchange
I assume, Swift, it's because they have now installed the standard small illuminated green emergency exit signs where there were none before.
