New Intercity Fleet Purchases/Observation

We all know the Labor strategy to transport is oppose everything and say silly things like bring back (insert bus route or train line). I'll be interested to see if OSCARs will still operate on the South Coast on local services or peak hour extension of Sydney suburban trains.

For some strange reason the ALP hasn't jumped on this silly bandwagon yet:

I guess Oscars will displace some South Coast Tangaras.

I can see Oscars staying on the South Coast Line for off peak and weekend services. Most South Coast peak and all weekend services terminate at Martin Place/Bondi Junction and begin from there. I am guessing this will change if they have 10 car trains on the line unless they are given the 8 car version, same with the Central Coast/Newcastle line via the shore.

My gut feeling is that when the entire B set fleet is delivered they'll be seen to be no different to A sets, and segregating them into sectors will become increasingly difficult.

A bit like the S and K sets in sector 3, before the ECRL: the SWTT roster number would read "S/K set".

Lack of any political advantage for them, being that those suburbs are already in their own safe electorates?

Sounds like that group will be all noise but with very little outcome for the foreseeable future then.


With Fairfield alone generating more patronage than all stations combined between Carramar and Sefton, they should be grateful they even have a railway service, at the way that some of the service rationalisation has been happening!

I think it's more reasonable to convert that section to light rail and, in the long term, connect to the Parramatta light rail network.

From reading the Facebook page it's a pretty small group..

One of the funniest complaints is that trains will be cut back from 8-cars to 4 when Metro opens...
I mean what do they expect - with so few users of that section they are lucky they don't have a bus instead - it will become a lightly used shuttle. Tend to agree that LR conversion is a possibility.

To me I'd think the obvious eventual outcome is a loop metro line.
Bankstown - Bankstown Airport - .. - Glenfield - Leppington - Badgerys - St Mary's - Schofields - Tallawong

Albeit giving the Metro line a dedicated corridor in the Glenfield/ Liverpool area is not easy and would also likely mean undergrounding Bankstown.

It would be quite feasible to continue from Carter St down to Lidcombe and onto either Bankstown or Cabramatta, or both.

I'd also think that with Metro West stopping at Olympic Park, you can remove the shuttle to Lidcombe, and therefore use those tracks down to Lidcombe for Light Rail. You'd likely need a tunnel dive to pass under the rail station to surface on the other side.

Agree the best outcome for Metro Northwest and Bankstown would be via Liverpool and WSA in a continuous automated loop in both directions with high frequency services.

Adamstown Platform 1 is currently receiving an extension to 10 cars long.

Platforms that I’ve seen currently being extended on the CCN:
Adamstown P1 - 4 > 10 car
Wyong P1/2/3 - 8 > 10 car
Gosford P2 - 8 > 10 car
Central P9/10/11 - 8 > 10 car
Keep in mind that a 10 car NIF is only a few metres longer than an 8 car V, so a lot of these are very minor extensions of around 5 metres.

Also, may I recommend changing the thread title to ‘New Intercity Fleet Observations’? The current title is a bit obscure to say the least.

Central P7 has had about 1 metre added, and P6 looks like it is also getting the same.

Sections of paving on 6-7 are also being trenched and looks like electrical conduit and access pits are being added

All the cooks hard at work in the kitchen. Easy to cascade to/use on suburban services if necessary. If the seats turn out as bad as the H's they won't even need to swap out the seats. Rather wish Stadler had got the job, not only for Wollongong jobs but for the input of some European experience. For sure, this train will be interesting to behold when it arrives.
