CBD & South East Light Rail
Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
If anyone's providing a rent holiday it should be the owners of the properties.
After all the taxpayer funded light rail is vastly increasing their property value, and no doubt there will be a significant rent hike come 2020.

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
I know someone who's involved in a cafe that fronts George St and they are indeed getting reduced rent, courtesy of the landlord. In fact they plan to move once the rent goes back to normal as they wouldn't be able to afford the location once it's at market rent again. So some landlords are doing the right thing (if only to keep their premises leased).
Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Looks like Park St intersection is getting tackled this weekend with a bunch of bus diversions posted from Fri night.
Also saw a large number of pavers sitting on the curve at Central so they are nearing the end for that section.

So I guess the first barriers will come down around May 2019 then?moa999 wrote:Altrac has finally released some dates.

But in all seriousness, Surely they could take away some of the barricades in the near complete sections. In some of the parts along Alison Road and Anzac Parade, the only thing left to do is take down the barriers.

Must thank you for your ongoing photographic record on SCF. It's been very helpful along with John Cowper's work.hornetfig wrote:^ There's some paving to do at the pedestrian crossings at John St and Cowper St.

5 new tram units expected to arrive in the 2nd half of July, and deliveries to ramp up for the rest of the year.
All roads in Randwick Stabling Yard are now tram ready and electrified, expect soon to see trams shunting during the day within the yard.

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Well with the election in March, I guess this is at least a compromise to get things looking a little more like they're done.
Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Really, if they hit their new dates this is almost the best of both worlds for the government. The construction disruption will be over and the streets will look nice, but the operational disruption and reorganisation of the bus network with forced interchange will not have hit yet.
There are more voters who work in the CBD who will see pretty streets than those who live in the South East and will actually catch the service.

At some point road level construction would be complete and there was always some time between road construction, electrification, signalling, testing and operation.

With a couple of new vehicle deliveries last week and the depot nearing completion, here's todays view from inside the operations building.

That gives a light at end of the tunnel feeling. All will be forgiven once this is finally running. People are going to rave about it.
NSW, the state that embraces mediocrity.
Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
What sections are they now testing on and are they up to full speed yet?

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
There are still no wires across Lang Rd, and I think they can get up to Wansey Rd in the other direction.
No idea about speed trials, guess the novelty of reporting on trials has worn off

Lang Road - Darley Road. There's video of full speed (60/70km/h) coupled testing on Anzac Pde.moa999 wrote:What sections are they now testing on and are they up to full speed yet?
It looks like Darley Road - Wansey Road has been made ready for test from, literally, tonight. There's no turnback at Wansey Rd stop so, not likely to get full speed testing in that section??
Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
The current test section is energised from Lang to Wansey and has been ready since February 2018, however the traffic signals at Alison/Darley are not yet ready to accept tram movements across Alison Rd, hence the test runs only go up to Darley for the moment.hornetfig wrote:Lang Road - Darley Road. During some recent signal testing, the cover wasn't put back on one of the new lanterns for the track, here's a sneak peak. Currently in testing phase, the tracks are being used bi-directionally, so turn-backs are not required.

^ Monica (who I believe is the anonymous SLR "M" on the Facebook page) promised trams this week. This was the start.

The trams have been testing for months on the small section. What's changed this week apart from one getting washed?hornetfig wrote:^ Monica... promised trams this week. This was the start.
Funny the tv news talking about trams running through the Moore Park tunnel soon.... Methinks there is still a bit of work todo around the Moore Park stop.
Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
That was about photos of trams on Facebook.
Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Testing started in February but has been paused for the last couple of months. The recent changes are that the depot area is fully track complete (previously only the maintenance building was open), the wash bay has been commissioned and a few more trams have been delivered.moa999 wrote:The trams have been testing for months on the small section. Trams won't be running in Moore Park tunnel soon, they are only just building the tracks now in that section.
The next area to be energised will be beyond Wansey on the Randwick branch, presumably to the end of the line.
