Metro Buses 2010/11: 32%

Outer Metro Buses 2008/9: 14%

Patronage has only increased marginally too.
How much has the government recovered the cost of road construction from road users?

I think the PT farebox recovery figures shown are perfectly reasonable.

As for the bus/ferry travelpasses - just remove them from sale. Easy.
Allowing the privates into the Travelpass system will require just as much effort and without the advantage of improving PT usage in the outskirt.

^ Why don't we just make fares free then, if it doesn't matter how much farebox recovery we get.

I don't know but this change meant that the recovery was redistributed away from those living more sustainable lifestyles by living closer to where they work.

I'm still waiting for a reasonable comment on what the advantage of MyZone was besides getting privates (+Newcastle Buses) into the Travelpass/MyMulti system?

It put some new colours on the tickets?

It made the fare system much simpler and easier for the user to understand.
It meant users who travelled on different routes didn't have to carry multiple TravelTen's
(this problem still exists today where a cash MyBus3 ticket is cheaper than say three dips of a MyBus1)

It also frankly discounted longer trips (which may have been an aim??)

--

It allowed the Govt to announce something new, versus the infrastructure where they just announced plans.

These are reasonable, if minor, advantages. I don't think they offset the leakage involved.

I'm sure it was.

I wonder if it will work today, despite officially starting tomorrow. (It worked for Gladys, unless it was specially programmed just for her).

Any new information in the FAQ ??
The 4 top-up points are all near the various ferry wharves - smart.

How many with the cards selected auto top-up versus cash?

I am an auto top-up.

Don't think so - has info about what Opal is, the trial, and expansion to Manly in second quarter 2013.

Thanks.
I would have thought they might have added some of the other smaller routes before trying to smash the system with the Manly ferry loads.

Seems a very slow start.
Particularly given Rail was scheduled to test from mid-2013.

I had "hoped" that they would have had 100% of the ferry system near operational before rail starts.

On closer inspection, the other booklet provided in the pack is not the same as the one on the Circular Quay wharves. It is one to show you how to use the card:

They had this diagram since the day it was announced:

Hmm, I'm wondering if there will suddenly be ticket inspectors (with new Opal machines) to do some testing tomorrow?

So the default fare is $7 (ie. MyFerry2)....
Despite all of the test service being MyFerry1 - ie $5.60.

Looks like they are going down the Brisbane path of having different default fares for each mode ("default fare for ferries")

Cancellation also seems to be similar to Brisbane...
Wonder if they will have the same issues of people tagging on at the front reader, then tagging off (cancelling) at the middle reader before the bus moves (this has now been stopped in the Bris system0

The default fare has to be more than the standard trip fare to make sure people tap off, otherwise they are out of pocket more than they should be.

How long does the Neutral Bay ferry service take? If it's less than 30 minutes, you can take the loop trip and tap off at Circular Quay for a free ride. I'm pretty sure it's less than 30 minutes.
Eastgardens to Kingsford is a 1-2 section fare.

It's about 30mins for the full loop

Was it really necessary to put the phone numbers of users on the card?

Haven't received my Opal card. How were they posted?

I live about 7km from the CBD, near Maroubra, so I'm unsure if they would bother delivering it to me if they're just dropping the cards off personally.

TOLL guy just brought me mine. (Sydenham).

For those who like the geeky bits, it's a MIFARE DESFire EV1 card - just tapped it against my Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

For reference, my Myki card - coming up to the four year expiration, is a MIFARE DESFire.
kypros1992 wrote: Was it really necessary to put the phone numbers of users on the card?
Agreed. I hope after the trial, the production cards will come with the option of the owner's name embedded/printed on the card, like registered Myki cards.

The courier still has 1 hour left to deliver all of them.
