Has Sutherland never received barriers before? one would've thought such a busy station would've received them long ago...

I've never noticed Sutherland having ticket barriers before, which I also found strange.
(A number of years back, I noticed that when there were more ticket inspectors on the Illawarra/South Coast line outbound trains, for limited stops/express trains they'd only start checking tickets after Hurstville - this was before the days of Wolli Creek, so every stop as far as Hurstville on said trains had ticket barriers).

Both Padstow and Sutherland have not had barriers since the implementation of them ~20 years ago (yes, it's been THAT long!). Had a friend of mine complain on Facebook about the extra amount of time it'll take to get through them.

Having said that, look for ticket revenue through those two stations to increase (it generally happens when there are barriers introduced).

I was in Sutherland Stataion yesterday, yet cannot see any signs of a ticket barriers at that station.
Furthermore, I think as Sutherland station has 3 exits, I don't know if installing ticket gates will be that easy as some exits will need to be closed.

That would explain the work I saw being carried out at around 3pm when travelling through there today. I'm surprised how big the job is; it seems to involve stripping the entire metal casing off the barrier, then conducting wiring and mechanical changes throughout. Even after the prep work from a number of weeks ago (putting in the new mechanics for the barrier motor to make them tougher, smoother and silent), it seems the job of installing the new screen is rather complex!

Not sure how it will be done at Penshurst, Mortdale and Oatley, especially for Oatley, as the ticket office is inside the station building, not just on one of the walls...

They can maybe put one pole on either side of the TVM

Well T-card fit out was done at Oatley, I doubt it will differ much from that.

Does anyone know why the "Ready" screens are of a lighter blue colour at Ashfield?

Looks like the typeface has also been changed. Perhaps a software upgrade occurred?

Update on the new Sydney Ferry ticket gates:

The current gates at Circular Quay, Manly and Darling Harbour will be replaced with new gates, which include a new Customer Message Display. Customers will start using the new gates from late June 2012.

Edit on the Croydon one: It actually has at least 7.
1 on Platform 1/2
Image
3 on Platform 3/4
Image
3 on Platform 5 (2 pictured here, arrow indicates where the other one is)
Image

Stanmore has 2 on Platform 1/2
Image

However, it appears at four are being put in on Platform 3.

Petersham has 5 in a 'pentagon' formation. Note Punchbowl has this same formation as well.
Image

Lewisham has 2 so far on the Northern Side of the station, Also note the signs, most stupid thing ever.
Image
Although it seems more are still coming. .
Image
Did not see any at: Flemington, Homebush, Ashfield, Summer Hill, Newtown.
