I crossed the end of Ascot St at Anzac Parade Kensington this morning and a short section of one of the rails is starting to appear again.

That has been there for a while. A couple of months ago they did some survey work there, and all the tracks were marked up with green paint. I posted some pics here I think

That does ring a bell now that you mention it - the markings aren't readily apparent any more.

A (rare?) pic of the stairs to Wynyard tram platforms - still there, but due for demolition!

As seen in the Wynyard Station Upgrade thread.

I doubt those platforms will ever be used, so no point in the unused stairs taking up valuable concourse space.

And I suspect they may well disappear forever as part of the massive Wynyard Place redevelopment which creates a new building that stretches from George to Carrington

I don't see how Wynyard Place would affect it at all. It's a couple dozen metres east of where the platforms or it's tunnels are, and stops short AT Carrington Street. In the diagram I posted in the Wynyard thread, the Wynyard Place development ends where the MetCentre connection is, it's nowhere near the actual station.

If anything had the potential to completely get rid of them, it was the concourse upgrade.

A bit off topic, but Hobart has at least 25 overhead wiring rosettes still in place in its CBD. They're the same pattern as Sydney's.

The old tram platforms would be under Wynyard Park or York St.

Exactly, which is why I don't see how the development would affect them at all.

The whole concourse is being worked on and I think they are getting rid of the stairway that leads to the entombed platforms. Not totally up to speed on this I admit.

The "entombed platforms" are in the Menzies Car Park. I have been in there a few times, but never made a point of checking out the stairs.

This shows the southern end of the platform, which has been built over with new foundations.

They recently exposed the stair way for the first time since the fifties. That is what was entombed by the looks of it. Has dismantling begun?

Well it's one way of ensuring that those platforms can't be reused.

I remember those stairs, they were just boxed in with four walls and a roller door iirc. They didn't take up much room on the concourse.

Well, we have started the ball rolling in reclaiming our tram ways with CSELR, so why not start here and move onto onto lanes 7 & 8 on the SHB?
Oops, forgot NSW culture of a lack of inspiration and silly 1950s persistence that roads equate to progress.
Amazing how keen they were on the world trend of overnight closure of tram systems in favor of smelly buses and cars, but super slow now that the resurgence of trams have been the trend for nearly twenty years .

A nice curved crack has appeared in the bitumen of the left hand lane of Victoria Road outbound, ~50m south of Evans Street, Rozelle. Obviously related to the tracks entering Victoria Road from the former reservation.

It seems Sydney's old tracks may be rising in defiance of the new ones being laid. This one has recently re-surfaced. The sharp curve might help you identify the location.

Rosettes -
Here's a little puzzle. There's a rosette in SUSSEX Street, just north of Goulburn St. Will it's story ever be told?

If anyone happens to be in the CBD you might want to head over to George Street where there is 2 sets of tracks, side-by-side, that have been uncovered in front of Town Hall. Quite well preserved.

There were no tram lines in Sussex St, so this might be a lamp or awning support of some kind?

Or it could be a remnant from Sydney cable tram days as it looks like the where grip goes in to pick up the cable
