Or it could be a remnant from Sydney cable tram days as it looks like the where grip goes in to pick up the cable

No, there are few places around where they have cut the rail like this, taken out one section and left another behind.

By way of clarification / accuracy, the end of the rail in the pic (above) was litterally the end of the line. As of today's date, it still sits there, exposed.

Previously unrecorded, there's a rosette on the Wigram Rd. facade of No 1 Booth St. Ironically, I only noticed it today at an anti-WestConnex rally in the park opposite, advocating better public transport!
Of course, this section of Booth Street never had trams. This rosette now joins the previously recorded one in Sussex Street as being perhaps the only two rosettes in Sydney which are not on former tram or trolley bus routes.

Slightly off topic -
An old map on display at the Maritime Museum shows a single tram track along Albert Street & Macquarie Street, linking the Quay to Fort Macquarie depot (Opera House site). Was there ever such a connection?

Yes, from 1902 to 1915

If anyone happens to be in the CBD you might want to head over to George Street where there is 2 sets of tracks, side-by-side, that have been uncovered in front of Town Hall. Quite well preserved.

Those tracks have since then been removed or covered,

How ironic a historic tram track has been disturbed to make way for a new one. At lest that is a good reason for once.

They will probably pull all stops to cover that up as a matter of urgency, while many potholes that do present a nuisance/danger are left unattended to.

BOTH triangles have jumped out of the bitumen at the intersection of Burwood & Crane at Concord.

Re the Burwood / Crane intersection at Concord - how far north of Crane St did the Burwood Rd tracks extend?

The tram line is the one that ran from Enfield to Mortlake and Cabarita which closed in 1948

Yes Bedford, but it turned left at Crane Street. What's clear now is that there was some kind of extension northward on Burwood road.

Looking on six maps that the Mortlake and Cabarita trams turned left into Crane St Concord there is no other track showing
