Takarta Airbag recall

Post by MotorOmnibus8562 »

As many as Two in Seven cars have been recalled after sharp metal fragments have been found inside Airbags, that’s nearly a quarter of all the cars in The world.

Vent here to say if your car’s been affected if you want, you don’t have to if you don’t want to. Just a thread discussing stuff about Cars with faulty airbags.

Thanks, Bus883&1022

This has been well advertised, seems some owners are ignoring the recall.

Many of the cars already done have actually been fitted with NEW defective bags, and will need to be changed again in the future.

I read recently that the takata company has gone bust, so remains to be seen what will get installed.

Up to a quarter of Anyone we know is likely to have a car with a faulty airbag. Luckily I’ve warned my friends and family about it in case they have a faulty car airbag and I even checked for them too.

I think a big part of the problem is dealers and manufacturers not having the resources to do the replacements in a timely fashion.

Also the attitude of some dealers and confusion around what is affected is not helping, I read a letter in the Herald Sun motoring liftout, from an owner of an affected Holden Cruze, that the dealer was very rude would not book it in due to the recall for that batch not happening until next year, the dealer even had the cheek to say they may charge for the replacement, but Holden pounced on the dealer, as of course it is a recall and they were not to charge.

I would have checked my car at least 6 months ago so this is nothing new.

Some cars with Takarta Airbags May be imported so if you type the Rego of an imported car, it will come up as unknown.

This will happen if you type in a registration of a heavy vehicle, it will also come up as unknown, type up 6063AO for example.

I got notification from Toyota in June 2015 regarding getting my Corolla fixed, with a follow up about 12 months later that parts were available.

I was put on the waiting list and my car was done in Feb 2017.

I have since been notified that a further replacement will be required.

I had my 2006 Corolla done about 3 years ago, they said it would be good for 5 or 6 years. Now they are getting all panicky and say it needs to be done again immediately.

A friend of ours has a similarly aged Mitsubishi Lancer, it has been done twice, the last time a year ago. There was a long wait to have the job done as they had to source parts from another supplier, and the dealer was booked out.
