Independent Petrol Stations
Where do the independents get their petrol from? Are the fuels essentially the same as the one I can fill up at Coles Express (Shell), and Woolies? My wife seems to think they are not the same fuel and are of a lesser quality. But I've read somewhere that Woolies and Coles Express fuels are from the same supplier (even BP for that matter).

Re: Independent Petrol Stations
Most fuel sold in Sydney is now imported, mainly from Singapore. There are no longer any refineries here.
Some of the import is via Caltex or Shell, going to their (ex refinery) bulk terminals. Some goes to private storage terminals at Port Botany, this serves some of the independents.
All fuel is supposed to meet minimum quality standards, but independent fuel may miss out on some of the "performance additives" of the brand names.
Back when we did have refineries, most of the fuel sold in NSW came from Shell at Clyde or Caltex at Kurnell, regardless of retail brand. The brands had their own bulk terminals for distribution, supplied from the same refinery.

What about Metro Petroleum, who uses Mobil fuel? I didn't think Mobil existed anymore in Australia?

Re: Independent Petrol Stations
Mobil sold their own company service stations to 7-11 a few years ago, but they still wholesale fuel. There may even be some privately owned sites still selling as Mobil.

Re: Independent Petrol Stations
Puma is in Perth and there are a few popping up in Melbourne. I'm pretty sure there's one on Flemington Road near the Children's Hospital and there's one near Northland.
I generally go to APCO (Anderson Petrol CO) as I've always found it lasts quite long in my car, and it's closest to my house. If I want to put good quality, I go to BP. I fill up with Unleaded 95 and I get about 800km out of my 2016 Holden Commodore.
Thanks,
Mitchul

They started off as a transport company supplying fuel all over the outback and bought a few independent fuel companies over the years.captainch wrote:We Have a inderpendant group in nth qld callPUMA who give you a card you get 5 cents off & you don't have to buy anything extra like drinks ect!

So doesn't seem to be that big of a company, or is just very recent.

There's one in Marsden Park in Sydney, just off Richmond Road.
Eastgardens to Kingsford is a 1-2 section fare.

I remember seeing the one in Port Augusta when I was there in October - had never heard of them before. Not the bus terminal one though, IIRC that one is a Mobil.

Re: Independent Petrol Stations
Independent servos are a godsend - we have a major independent called Inland Petroleum who get their fuel from Shell. iOR also are independent and import petrol but refine their own diesel, Eromanga UMF (Underground Mining Fuel), at Eromanga, 1000km west of Brisbane
Love the new Custom Denning vehicles
Including the Adventurer School Bus
And the Endeavour Low Floor
And the new Element 100% Electric Bus - the first Aussie BEV bus
