The local yuppies WHO OWN units on sydneys finger wharf opposite garden island navel base are holding a big protest next Saturday to have this ship removed as it upsets their views ..................Hello when they looked at buying there what did they expect the sailors to man bloody row boats and if we were invaded by sea the scream would be weres the NAVY. FOR GODS SAKE IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SHIPS AFTER ALL THEY WERE THERE FIRST MANY LONG YEARS AGO. ...................JUST move S.I.M.P.L.E. .

Re: THE NEW H.M.A.S ADELAIDE
People weren't complaining about HMAS Canberra when it was being built/tested/placed in dock...
Re: THE NEW H.M.A.S ADELAIDE
The Navy should have the Canberra, Adelaide, Largs Bay, Tobruk and Success in dock at the same time. And borrow the George Washington for a sunny weekend as well.

Are they all navy boat names? Why would you name one after Largs Bay (a suburb of Adelaide, close to Outer Harbour and ASC)
First person on 822, 865 (2016 re-route).

The Largs Bay is actually named HMAS Choules-the latter name was used when the ship served with the RFA. Largs Bay in this instance refers to a place near Ayrshire in Scotland.Lt. Yes, they are all ship names; the RAN is re-using the Adelaide-class frigate names for the Canberra-class LHDs (Canberra and Adelaide) and the upcoming Hobart-class destroyers (Hobart and Sydney); the name HMAS Brisbane (to appear on a Hobart-class destroyer) was last used on a Perth-class destroyer in commission from 1967-2001.
The RAN tends to have a preference to place its big ships at Fleet Base East (Garden Island), while the Collins-class subs and a batch of Anzac-class frigs are at HMAS Stirling (Fleet Base West) in WA. Hence why things are a bit crowded, especially considering the fact that both Canberra-class ships will remain at Fleet Base East.
Re: THE NEW H.M.A.S ADELAIDE
Australia only has so many capital cities that it can name it's "capital" ships after. The Hobart (D-39) was actually last used on the same Perth-class destroyer as the Brisbane (D-41). Perth was then reused on the last ANZAC-class frigate that was commissioned.
The RAN has usually only operated one submarine base, it used to be HMAS Platypus at Neutral Bay.
