Is this the most annoying ad on tv at the moment?

Postby scott » Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:35 am

This is the new Coles ad featuring Normie Rowe

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/annoying-coles-ad-hits-a-sour-note/story-fn7x8me2-1226240293664

They should team Normie up with Ron Casey, having a nice BBQ.

Yes it is a bad one - Won Casey's pre-emptive strike was obviously with this future commercial in mind.

Talking about ads

Australia says no: Ads that really got our backs up

POLE-dancing mums, extra-long nipples and men playing pianos with their penises are among the things Aussies find most offensive when it comes to advertising, latest figures show.
The Advertising Standards Bureau has released a list of its most complained about ads on record, with the top spot going to a Nando’s TV ad showing a woman pole-dancing in a g-string and talking about her “cravings”.
The 2007 ad received 359 complaints but like nine of the top 11 commercials stayed on air after being dismissed by the board.
Second spot, with 284 complaints, went to a 2006 TV ad for Mentos showing a man’s nipples growing as he walks about town eating the mints while third was the “Want longer lasting sex?” billboards for erectile dysfunction spray banned by the board in 2008.

The ads are on the link

The ad for the McDonald's McOz, with ketchup, a word to Ronald McDonald and his ad agency- In Australia, it is referred to as tomato sauce, not ketchup, otherwise it will be called the McYank or the McSeptic.

Mmm, let me guess, the buns on the McOz are smaller than the original?

If you want better burgers/chips (instead of those strings that try to pass for chips), got to a take away shop.

Ketchup and tomato sauce are slightly different- ketchup has more spices in it, and is slightly sweeter than tomato sauce. So yes, while they are VERY similar, McDonald's has every right to call it what it is.

Newcastle Flyer wrote:Mmm, let me guess, the buns on the McOz are smaller than the original?

Yes, as they are Quarter buns, which were reduced is size (and also price) about 18-24 months ago to bring them in line with every other market McDonald's operates in.

Have look in Woolworths/Coles/IGA, ketchup and tomato sauce are two different products. Some manufacturers even produce both of them.

We've reached the point where Coles and Woolies no longer need to tell us about themselves. ("We sell groceries!"). Everyone knows them, and there is a store in every second suburb. Any advertising strategy is to try and hold or increase their marketshare. Woolworths has the whole 'My Woolies' attempted loyalty thing going on. Coles strategy is more of an 8 year old screaming hoping you'll pay attention. Coles is my closest licensed dealer of the 1.25L bottles of mountain dew for under $1.50 (OMNOMNOM), they could run an ad that is rats clawing at someones face, crawling through their eye socket and eating their brain while the person is alive, followed by the tagline "We hate you. die." and I'd still shop their if the prices, range, and location stayed the same.

Which speaks volumes about the level of competition (and quality) in the Australian retail sector!
