Hi guys,

I've been in Portugal for the last month or so. Slowly working my way through photos to post up. Attached are some shots of the trains, trams and light rail vehicles that operate in Porto and (trains) to the outer suburbs, and other nearby cities from Porto.

STCP (Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto) who run the buses here also manage the three tram lines that run through the city. Here is one of the trams on line 22.

Mr OC Benz - are all the trams in Porto as old as 220 or are there some modern ones as well?

All the trams on routes 1, 18 and 22 are the "historic" ones operated by STCP.

The Metro do Porto is operated using modern light rail vehicles (network is a little over 10 years old) on dedicated right of way roads, bridges and tunnels (the main city centre bit, trams go underground and stop at stations underneath.) Fleet consists of Flexity Outlook and Flexity Swift tram cars. Priority is given at all the sections of track that crosses roads so that these trams don't have to wait for cars to move or cross etc... Pedestrians share the path in which the light rail operates (above ground) on.

This system is different to Lisbon which in an upcoming photo thread, you will see the old trams and new light rail vehicles sharing the same tracks on the streets that cars and buses also use.
